Is there anyone currently at the NVC level who's petition is headed to Amman Jordan or is there anyone who is currently filing a petition for a SO and will be going through Amman?

I just read in the Immigration News forum that petitions heading to Amman will be going to Athens Greece

"On a separate note, but for those who may be interested, I was also told at the beginning of this week that cases designated for the US Embassy in Amman, Jordan are currently being deferred to Athens, Greece. If your case is currently designated for Amman, you will want to stay in touch with the NVC throughout your processing to see which Embassy/Consulate will be taking your case."

Angel, thank you for the heads up as I sent out my I130 and jsut got the reciept and I am mailing off my I-129f tomorrow. I am not sure if this is a good thing or not. I guess if they process much faster then it will be a good thing. I guess I better start saving money incase he needs to travel to Greece. Well I guess I can start putting the money in the HBSC account that we are getting as a joint account so he has quick access.

Thanks again not sure if things will change before our file gets anywhere but it is always best to be prepared.

I left a question for the visa parnter asking why cases are being deferred to Athens, Greece. Most likely because of the overflow from Iraq, but we'll see what he has to say.

If nobody looked in the immigration news forum the answer I receieved was this

"I would assume due to the conflict in the Israel and Jordan region that the cases are being sent to Athens for the safety of the applicants and consular officers. I am not aware of the exact reason though.

This information was provided to be by an NVC operator. I apologize for not having a solid basis to substantiate my information; my lack of evidence is the reason I suggested to call the NVC to double check."

I didn't know there was a conflict between Israel and Jordan. Well glad my husband had his interview. Hmmm, maybe they got backed up again or maybe there was room for moved-up interviews because they sent files to Athens? Maybe it is the Iraqi files they have moved to Athens. Interesting.

I really doubt this. I only know that Lebanease petitions were at some point in the pat were handeled in Greece but this is when there was no american embassy. As for Amman, it is highly unlikely. Safety is not an issue.

I keep hearing people talk about the Iraq flow to Jordan and backlog they are creatring.....Question: does the ammerican embassy process visas in Iraq?!

Note: At the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, we only accept applications for three types of nonimmigrant visas (Diplomatic and Government Officials, Representatives to International Organizations, and USG-funded exchange visitors). All other nonimmigrant and immigrant visa applications must be filed at another U.S. Embassy or Consulate outside of Iraq.
