medicaid will soom be a thing of the past everyone cannot have free insurance and free healthcare thier are not enough people paying into the system to keep up the people that have paid nothing into the system. you would be suprised at the amount of people that are on medicaid that have not paid one cent into it, we have enough people milking the syatem and need to start getting people off of the government #######. sorry if this sounds a little crass but i am tired of paying for everyone else to get free things for instance i pay 12 to 14 thousand dollars in income tax and only get maybe 1 grand back but someone that makes 15 grand a year and pays in say 2 grand gets 5 to 6 grand back how does that work well they are getting my taxes paid back to them and i am sick of our robinhood governments socialistic policies. i know this will make a lot of people mad but i am saying what a lot of people are thinking but afraid to say.

Uh, maybe because you have enough money to live off in the first place and the poor person who only earns 15K doesn't! And America doesn't have socialism - you only think that's what it is because you don't live in a country with REAL socialist / liberal policies.

I think you are confusing Medicaid with MEDICARE....

Medicaid is Welfare Health Coverage, most of the people on it have never paid a single cent into it.

If someone immigrates here at 60 and has never paid into the system I don't know that they would qualify for Medicare (Retirement Health Coverage) anymore than they would qualify for Social Security Monthly Checks.

wrong my friend if you have a job you are paying for it anyone who has a job is paying into it and it was designed to help people who are between jobs or are not making enouigh but you have people getting on it that have never worked and are getting welfare and foodstamps and uncle sam is paying their rent. i ask why work when i have someone else keeping me up if you are not a citzen and have never paid taxex you should not qualify for them. if i have to prove i can keep up my fiance once she is here so should everyone else that wants to bring their parents or siblings to the good old usa where it flows with milk and honey well the milk is drying up and the honey has soured.

Awatson, I totally understand your feelings. Actually i feel the same. I pay about the same income taxes as you do each year and my husband does the same. But you know what, we actually got NOTHING back and even had to pay additional taxes!! We ended up buying mututal funds to lower the taxes at the end of the year. We don't earn a lot, we just earn okay, making living in NYC is not easy as everything is so expensive!! I feel jealous of these people who don't have to work and have everything free! Free health insurance, free money from government each month and low rent. We work so hard and get nothing free...

So now I'm checking out for my Mom. I hope that she can get something for free. Just hoping but knowing that's not easy... My husband and I pay $3000 a year on health insurance through his company. I hope to get some reasonable cost of health insurance for my Mom.

does not matter the poor person needs to work for his just like i do he should not be entitled to the money i have worked for, america does not have sociallism what a joke. what do you think medicare and medicaid and welfare is we are borrowing money we do not have to apy for things we cannot afford. i bet you have no clue as to how many people it takes to keep up one person that is retiredwell let me enlighten you it takes four and that doesnt include the ones that are on the social programs so what is our governments answer print more money. and by the way i have enough to pay my bill and that is about it not much left over.

I understand that my taxes fund these hand-out programs. All of the "Welfare" programs were originally designed to be a crutch through hard times. Unfortunately they have become social entitlements that are abused. FWIW, you can't just get Medicaid if you're unemployed. There are requirements though I believe they vary from State to State. Around here Kids get it automatically if their parents can't afford medical insurance but adults must have current medical expenses that are in excess of a certain amount.

i know how you feel my insurance is not that much and i work in the healthcare field and we do not have enough politicians that have the balls to stand up and tell the people of this country what they need to hear and i can tell you because i see it every day that one place we are going to have to cut our costs is end of life care, l see the older people that their families say do everything to keep mom or dad alive and i see what the bills they are running up in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and sometimes millions and these people have multiple health problems and end up on life support with no hope of ever getting better and more times than not. i am not saying stop treating the health problems but i am saying we will treat them but life support and certain surgeries should not be an option but the politicians will never do this because their sorry butts would not get voted back in and would actually have to actually dare i say it a job. people may say that medical costs to much and the people working in the field make to much but that also goes back to you get what you pay but if they want to cut my pay that is fine just adjust the prices on everything so i and most everyone else can afford to live. i do not know all the answers but all i know is that our country is in trouble and there are going to have to be some hard decisions made and it is going to be painful for everyone or we are going to be known as the late great united states.

i know that new york is an expensive place and while i make a good living, i myself could not afford to live there, i live in the south and it is more affordable, but i know our country is in a financial mess and headed down the road to ruin and it is not anyone certain persons fault but most everyones fault.

How do you know that "someone that makes 15 grand a year and pays in say 2 grand gets 5 to 6 grand back"?

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

i have talked to several coworkers who have brothers or sisters that get back that much after paying in the amount i said, ok let them have theirs back but not some of mine also. to many people gaming the system and pretty soon there will be no system to game. i think i will go ahead and buy me a wheel barrow so i can have something to put the worthless dollars into to buy a loaf of bread.

I've known a couple of people actually....

Pop out a couple of kids, pay little in taxes, get a few grand back. It's actually kind of infuriating...
