Hi,

I am on F-1 and recently married a US citizen. I have an interview with my spouse on Oct 19.

I have a COPY of my birth certificate and my family is going to express mail it on Oct 18. But I won't have it in time for my interview on Oct 19. I should get it on Oct 20. My question is should I

a) Go to the interview with the copy and if they ask, let them know that the original is in the mail and go back with it the next day OR

b) Should I reschedule my interview?

I have my spouse's birth certificate and all other required documentation.

Please let me know.

Thanks!

My wife adjusted from a K1, and her kids from K2's, so it's not exactly the same, but the IO did ask to see their original birth certificates and passports at the AOS interview. Obviously, this doesn't mean they'll ask to see it in your case.

Don't try to reschedule the interview. Too many people have gotten into problems trying to do this. They often end up being denied AOS because the request to reschedule didn't trickle down to the IO conducting the interview in time. Go to the interview. If they ask for your birth certificate then give them the copy and your explanation. If this becomes the reason for a hold up then they'll conditionally approve the AOS pending you returning with your original birth certificate. It's highly unlikely they'll deny you for not having the original with you.
