some of you have spent a lot of time reading posts of K-1 interview experiences and you might have also been through the process with your significant other- so if you can, answer this question for us...

if you had to break down the documents needed for the interview into three categories: mission critical, probably needed, or don't bother- what would you put in the respective categories?

example:

MISSION CRITICAL

photos of the two of you together

petitioner's divorce decree(s)

affidavit of support

current employment letter

2009 tax return

PROBABLY NEEDED

chat transcripts

NOA2

petitioner G325

beneficiary G325

DON'T BOTHER

copy of the I-129

2008, 2007 tax returns

letter from the consulate with interview date

her interview is in Manila, so please respond if you have any consulate-specific information.

thanks a whole lot!

ACTUALLY,as far as i know the letter from the consulate is one of those things that its better to have on hand just in case.

thanks a bunch for the reply ygr. we just got her MNL number by paying the $18 and calling in, and we were told just to print the confirmation e-mail that would be sent following the conversation. now, nobody take my word for this as we might find that they really want that darn letter on interview day, but our gal on the phone said the printed e-mail will take the place of the letter. police clearance must be on most folk's mission critical list- i tend to agree on that one. my gal spent some time in a foreign country so besides the NBI clearance she needs one from the other country. thanks again for your input ygr- most valuable.

does she need both NBI and barangay clearance to take to the interview???

My thoughts are there cannot be too much. The goal of the process is to get the visa. Not to guess at what is just enough.

Now, what is "enough" will vary from one embassy/consulate to another.

Better to bring along some extra paper and leave with an approval then to leave with a RFE for a document that you may have sent already but got lost, or just didn't think was "that" important.

I would also make sure your fiancee has the original of your divorce decree with her for the interview even though you sent a copy with the application. They have the right to see the originals or any copies that were submitted. While my K-1 interview was at a different consulate, they went through the original divorce decrees (my husband had two prior marriages) with a fine tooth comb and actually had to get verification on one of them that it was the original.

NBI or National Bureau of Investigation covers the whole Philippines so you don't need barangay clearance anymore. Goodluck! :star:

Probably the best motto to go by is the "Better safe than sorry" motto. In other words, bring everything you can, but keep it organized, so that you can produce exactly what they want when they ask for it, because they won't want to see everything, but you definitely want to have what they do ask for. But if I had to narrow it down to one thing that seemed most critical (other than the normal required paperwork) it was pics of me with her family. The IO seemed most impressed with all our pics of me with my fiancee's family members and that was the one thing I was most grateful for having brought.
