U.S. District Judge Who Presided Over Government Wiretapping Case May Have Had Conflict of Interest
(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption and judicial abuse, announced today that Judge Anna Diggs Taylor, who last week ruled the government’s warrantless wiretapping program unconstitutional, serves as a Secretary and Trustee for a foundation that donated funds to the ACLU of Michigan, a plaintiff in the case (ACLU et. al v. National Security Agency). Judicial Watch discovered the potential conflict of interest after reviewing Judge Diggs Taylor’s financial disclosure statements.

According to her 2003 and 2004 financial disclosure statements, Judge Diggs Taylor served as Secretary and Trustee for the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan (CFSEM). She was reelected to this position in June 2005. The official CFSEM website states that the foundation made a “recent grant” of $45,000 over two years to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Michigan, a plaintiff in the wiretapping case. Judge Diggs Taylor sided with the ACLU of Michigan in her recent decision.

Wow, she's really something. Sounds like she should have recused herself. But why do that when you have a chance take a jab at Bush?

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

Which of course doesn't actually mention the legitimacy of the ruling itself but rather casts disrepute on the person making it. How unpredictable.

Doesn't mean that another judge wouldn't reach a similar conclusion.

Leave the law to the judiciary and the party political B/S to politicians.

At what point did our society begin to value blind faith in our elected officials and a complete suspension of critical thought, and to consider that synonymous wtih patriotism?

Nowadays we don't have a division of so-called liberals and conservatives so much as we have a division of those willing to ask questions and those trying to shut those people up.

How can it be that the only opinion allowed is no opinion of your own at all?

That happened right about the same time that President GWB became King George. The Bushies shamelessly exploited 9/11 to the max. Fortunately, they seem to be maxed out and now on a significant downward spiral. The King will be no more come the end of the year when there will be a Congress, differently assembled, taking charge of it's responsibilities again and put this administration firmly back in it's place.
That is very optimistic. Do you really think it's going to happen? Is there some sort of article I can read to make me as optimistic as you? (Seriously, that's not sarcasm although I know it sounds like it.)

Yes, I know. I am very optimistic. Nothing one can read, I'm afraid. Just the collection of my life experiences so far not the least of which is my first hand witnessing and helping along the demise of the tyrannical regimes on the dark side of the iron curtain. ;)
