I always wonder that one has a degree of law with immigration specialities. So assuming that they have a powerful knowledge of their field. I am sure those who are consulting a lawyer will be thinking of taking whole immigration matter out of their mind and sleep tension free. But here is another example of money making firms......they never care for time that is wasted on the whole process, and on the other side people who have hired them will be waiting patiently for the process to go smoother.........

what the hell they have earned the degree for. ... just by reading the VJ guidelines we can get a good knowledge of basic processes as well as if it is complex we can sometimes comes to a good conclusion or atleast a direction of what to do next......or specific sources.......than why to use a lawyer......whose help is worse ... than a kindergarten......kid.........and funny part is these lawyers have good experience with lots of cases like our's than what's a delay for..? are those lawyers just earned a degree from unreputed colleges or what ... lol.....

I live in Canada so the process is a little different for me. However when i contacted a lawyer in the US. He said when immigrating from Canada it is a waste of money to pay a lawyer at all. He was the one who told me all the steps to take (for free over the phone)! The whole process has costed us/will cost us; 350 (i130 fee), (404 fee due at interview), 275 cdn (medical) and the trip to the interview. Plus also the pictures and police checks etc that were basically chump change.

Which Lawyer did you talk to? Mine is now telling me that I should keep her or I am risking not getting my visa approved and if that happens there is nothing that can be done at that point. I was also turned back from the border before we were married due to lack of ties to Canada and that it appeared that I was living there since I was there so much. That got cleared up but I know it is still on my record. She said because of that My case is more difficult. I don't know if she is giving me the right advice at this point and I would really like to talk to a lawyer that is fair and honest like the one you spoke to. Can you give me his name, number etc...Thanks

Thats technically incorrect. Yes, it may be on your record, but shouldnt give purpose to deny you a visa. Worst case scenario you may have to file a waiver, but i seriously doubt it for that.

I think your lawyer is trying to put the frighteners on you to be honest, but thats only my opinion.

Have a look at the forum at www.immigrate2us.net and ask the same question.

Laurel Scott is apparently an excellent immigration attorney, quite pricey too I believe but she also provides a Q and A chat on a Wednesday. You can post the question in the forum there and all being well if you get it in early enough she will answer it for you. ie do you need a lawyer for your case?!

In my honest opinion if you are confident enough to do it on your own filling out the forms, then you'll be ok. Obviously Im no lawyer though, but its well worth asking the question at immigrate2us too, for peace of mind if nothing else.

I hope all goes well for you, you will also get some good advice from the experienced fol over there - some of whom have had visas approved with quite daunting circumstances, as well as here. I think with the aid of both of these forums, one can negotiate the process without too much fear.

Our Lawyer did the EXACT SAME THING!! We fired him after we received our NOA2 and did all of the NVC paperwork on our own. No problems at all getting approved at the NVC. BIGGEST REGRET spending that $2,500 on our attorney! He did virtually nothing except photocopy the documents I gave him and send them to the USCIS. Waste of Money.
