Hi all,

After a long wait I have finally received an email from the NVC that my interview date is on the 3rd of November. And in that letter they had mentioned all the things that I need to prepare for the interview. (Medical Exams, Police certificate Etc.)

My Question is: Do I need to contact the embassy to confirm the date or I have to get all the papers ready and take them with me on the 3rd of November.

Your help is really appreciated.

Thanks

Hey Thanks ...

I already have most of the documents ready.

Is there a chance of such a visa to be rejected if you have all the documents ready ?

if they need anything else except those are mentioned so they might give u a blue sheet221(g) and will mention in that sheet which document to bring..

what kind of rejection did u mean?

I am assuming that you filled the visa journey timeline incorrectly when you say you are applying for an F-1 visa. An F-1 visa is for students, and its a non-immigrant visa. I think you have an interview for an immigrant visa, correct? I don't know how things are done in Lebanon but in India, you apply for the interview date online. So with the assumption that you are in the immigrant visa category, let me give you some pointers:

1. There's nothing else to do with respect to the consulate, unless you have a question about something.

2. You'll need to get your medical checkup done at the designated doctor/hospital in Lebanon. You will take this to the interview.

3. What police certificate are you talking about? The national visa center will not do a case-complete and sent you the interview letter if you didn't already send the police certificate in original.

Usually, all you need is your medical certificate (from the consulate designated doctor), visa photos (3 I think) and the interview appointment letter.

I don't know what kind of a visa this is...but if you apply as a spouse, its good to bring photos of the wedding, reception and evidence of ongoing relationship.

I won't say anything more because I am writing all this based on the assumption that you are going for an immigrant visa, not a student visa, which is what F-1 usually is.

Hope this helps!

And read all pages of the interview letter and follow up exactly. It should basically say that all you need is the health certificate.

I mean to deny me the visa. Or in such cases as long as all the documents are there you will get your visa.

Also a quick question: I was just going through the website of the embassy and they said you should have a signed DS230. We had already sent the signed DS 230 to the NVC. Should I have another one ? or the one we had sent to the embassy is the one they are talking about.

Thanks a lot :)

F1 visa is a Family based first priority visa for Unmarried sons and daughters of US citizens over 21.

Not sure though ..

i don't know which one is they talking about but yes you fill out another and take that with u the time u go to ur interview and sign only ds-230 part 1 do not sign part 2 cause part 2 u need to sign in fron of consular when they ask to!!

and about visa rejection as i think u are in a family based visa category so if u have enough evidence to show them that u are real and ur relation with the petitioner is real there is no chance of rejection..

and to let u know sometimes people don't get visa in a day some people have to go through a processing called administrative processing that is called in short fom AP so no one know how long AP takes sometime a month or more AP timing is unknown AP is actually a background checking if the consular officer feels that u need a AP so u might be issued a 221(g) form again and in that it will be written additional processing..

but dont worry be true and take as much evidence as u have to proof that ur relation is real so there is no chance of AP

Hi Arashh,

In the letter that I have received from the NVC there's a list of documents that are needed. But next to my Immigrant visa application it says "Required document received". My Understanding is that the NVC will fwd the original one that I had sent to the embassy and I will have to sign that one in the embassy. Isn't that correct ?

If the letter that you got and the letter my wife got (her interview is on Nov 30) is similar, the letter should list at the end what documents they have received and the status, they have codes, like F, O, etc and a key. It should say that your police certificate was received in original. If the NVC letter says they have it and it meets the "posts document requirements" then there is nothing more you need to bring.

Yes, I have heard that sometimes you have to fill out a DS230 all over again. It doesn't hurt to have one ready.

I would take:

a) a copy of everything you have submitted to USCIS and NVC

b) the interview letter

c) valid passport, valid for at least 6 months from the date of the interview

d) passport size, US designated photos

e) Health certificate

f) In India we use a courier service. This has to be paid because this is usually how you get back your pp with the visa. Don't know how it is in Lebanon.

g) Not sure exactly all the documents you need to carry to provide proof that you are the son or daughter of the US citizen.... for example, in the case of spouses, wedding photos are routine.

Immediately make a health appointment...I mean right NOW! you don't have much time and they have get you in for a appointment before your interview which is 2 weeks.

And go through every page of this website...which incidentally, was also on your interview letter: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3731.html

Good luck.

The only proof I have which shows that I am related to my mom is the Original Family Extract which shows all the names of the family members in 1 sheet.

I would actually recommend contacting the consulate - we had to bring VFS receipts in India, showing we'd paid the fees, and probably wouldn't have known about this unless we contacted the consulate. Get on the phone with them - what do you have to lose? It could be different in Lebanon. Also, since it is the US consulate, Americans will be conducting the interview. Make sure you have no difficulty understanding their accent.

Not to scare you, but yes, there is definitely a chance of rejection. If you aren't able to answer their questions, they may not grant the visa. Here are some sample interview questions, which may be different in your case:

http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Consular_Interview_Questions

Are there photos of you with your mother, or do you have access to her or your phone bills? Make sure you bring those. I don't think just a family extract is enough.
