I spent tonight wondering why I spent 2000 dollars on an attorney to do my cr-1. Even as I type this I got my answer. Value your time and research. I am fortunate, maybe, that I can send 2gs to an attorney and not blink but I still drive an impala. Why do I say this? He said he was petitioning a K-1 and he was saving so much time and money. I asked him how many hours he spent on paper work and he told me "5 minutes." Wow, a BMW costs more than 5 minutes of my time.

I think what this man was saying is epidemic. Value your time. In this forum I give my advide through what I have learned. I am happy to say I never had an RFE but it coult happen. I can't answer complicated cases, we leave them to Loto, jaja. But what I know I will give to you and you take them to the bank.

Today is October 15 so it's the day I will find out if my wife and I are interviewing in November. they can mnove this thread and I don't care. I just get tired of rude and incompetent people commenting. Please, after 16 months of marriage, let me be with my wife.If not, Hillary may start looking good, jaja.

VJ works for some and gives answers to others.

I would say if you can afford an attorney it is good. VJ was very helpful in our case but we also got lots and lots of incorrect information. Some of the people here think they are immigration gurus and answer like thats the LAW. So you have to be a bit careful when you do the research in VJ. I will still say it is very helpful but there is tremendous possibility of getting incorrect information on here. Atleast an attorney is answerable and incompetance may even get them disbarred if a grievance is filed and proved.

You should be able to go through the immigration process without either a lawyer or VJ's help. The process is well explained in USCIS and Department of State's website. You can only blame your incompetency if you acted on a faulty advice on VJ. When you signed up for this site, you had read the TOS, you would've known that no one here is a lawyer and our comments aren't end-all-be-all. Take everything you read on the interwebs with big grains of kosher salt--even this very post that I'm typing to you.

I agree with your... Long as you're above to read , write and comprehend what's written then a lawyer isnt necessary. My grandmother and her 4 sis when for their N400.. my brother, my self, my mom, dad, and many friends and family all went through the immi step..no lawyers were used. The instructions are very simple.. it has to be.. they make it that so so there are not many questions flooding the call centers.

if we're given ANY information here.. it's up to us to do the research againt that information. I use the heck out of free consultations.

A criminal defense attorney has many jobs. Questioning a witness in court is only a small part of his duties. The primary duty of a defense lawyer is to spend crucial time on a case to gather as much information as possible and to question valuable witnesses. In fact, a lawyer does not need to step into a court room to assist you in your case, because of their job is to negotiate with prosecutors, often resulting in reduced charges or lesser sentences for their clients. They also give their clients an objective opinion and tell them what is likely to happen. This is very important for defendants trying to decide whether to accept or reject a plea bargain offer from the prosecutor.

And how does this pertain to the thread?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Duhh what the heck are you talking about??

And like others have said, take everything you read here with a grain of salt. I bought an Immigration book through amazon that has also complimented what I have learned here at VJ then did my forms and information. VJ is not the end all, but they sure have been helpful and saved me tons of money. Yes time is valuable, but why would I worry about saving "5" minutes??? I had to wait 5 MONTHS for the USCIS, then God only knows how much longer till we are done at NVC and then the interiew in Montreal. Do you really think paying a lawyer is going to speed the process up??

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHA.... We hired an immigration attorney.. turns out he couldnt even spell canada right, and he listed my husband as my son on our application.. it was rediculous.. one RFE after the next. Eventually the attorney vanished with our money.. devistating as that was, it was the best thing that happened to us, because then we found Visa Journey and started getting it right!!

I wouldnt say that hiring an immigration attorney is helpful at all!! Thats just my story.. however, Ive come across others like mine too.

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

William Ernest Henley
