My husband is critical of Egypt, also. Many aspects of Egypt including gov't. Many Egyptians I know criticize Egypt, fellow Egyptians, Egyptian gov't, etc.

there's no free passes for morocco, or any other arab country, from my husband either.

Apparently I don't fall into either of your categories. You love to put people in neat little boxes, don't you? I have held my opinion about the US gov't long before I knew my husband existed. Explain that one for me.

I found nothing feel good about a woman getting her nose cut off. I found it sad and morbid.

Did you see the orignial post?

Then read what subsequently was written about it being "war porn"

There is a slam book. Its passed around and you either fall into two groups, the ones who still feel American and like it and the ones that replace everything about themselves with everything different, retaining little of their identity until one day they wake up, and everything they bought into is gone and they go back to being American. Which if they stayed that way, perhaps they wouldnt have suffered so

there is a slam book...trust me...and all of us know people who identity flipped into something much different just from getting married.. its stupid and it never ends up right

I just posted a feel good article..and apparently it caused people to start america bashing...read down and then understand why perhaps the slam book idea is very true

"The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Who here has said they "signed the I hate America slambook" because they married a MENA guy? HG mentioned that American soldiers have also committed atrocities in Afghanistan, he never said "I hate America". Why is it when someone from MENA (or any other foreigner) says something regarding US foreign policy or what have you that it automatically means they hate America? I don't think anyone in this thread has mentioned they hate America.

Thank you so much for saying that .And i really apprecaite it .

I did not say that i hate USA .And i even did not say that i hate the US Army !!

If i hate USA i would not be here at all thats for sure .Plus i always say to my family its wonderful to see a 300 years old country have so much better things than a 7000 yeas country !

I met so many Americans and they hate Obama. And they always talking so bad about him. And they wish he will be out of the white house soon Doees that mean they hate American ? Does that mean they hate thier country !

I talk bad sometimes about my presidnet and my gov does that mean that i hate Egypt ?!

All i want to say is sometimes the media show you just what it wants to show you .Yeah it was so cute so save that woman and you can watch and read her story everywhere. on the internet , on TV ........... but i don't think that they told us how many women got killed in Afgansitan ? Iraq?Israel ?..........

Anyway i just want to say i don't hate anyone or any country .We had 3 wars with Israel and i guess all or at least most of Egyptians hate jewish people .And you know what i don't hate them and i don't have any problem with them and i guess i have maybe one jewish friend or more here in VJ !

Nothing's impossible . Nothing's unreachable .When I am weary you make me stronger

This love is beautiful .So unforgettable . I feel no winter cold when we are together .

Will you stand by me ?!!!Hold on and never let me go .

Will you stand by me?!! With you i know i belong . When the story gets told .

When day turns into night .I look into your eyes . I see my future now .All the world and its wonder

This love wont fade away. And through the hardest days . I will never question us .You are the reason my only reason.

I'm blessed to find what i need in a world loosing hope. you are my only believe .

You make things right every time after time.....

Will you stand by me ?!!!

I love you so much and i miss you so much more .

I have no idea what a slam book is and don't care to know.

What I always think is so ironic is that those who blindly support America and its policies are always those who criticize others for exercising their American rights of questioning the government and criticizing the policies

The hypocrisy and irony of it is funny.

I take horrific offense to the fact you hate our army. My father was just awarded the legion of honor by the French govt for his service in Normandy and laid his life on the line at 19 for you to be able to have some where to immigrate to. You might not agree with the actions of our military as a whole or may disagree with foreign policy, but when you hate American soldiers, you hate my father, you hate my country and I am sorry, you dont need to live here. This country is inexplicably entertwined with our military and while you dont approve its actions, you shouldnt hate American soldiers . They are our sons, brothers and daughters.

Its like me hating you because an egyptian was really the ringleader for 9 11. Its like me hating you because the egyptian brother hood literally has been the biggest producer of terrorism since the 1920s. I dont blame every relgious muslim from Egypt for 911 or for terrorism against America like you shouldnt hate everyone in the American army. Its their job. Its what they do for a living and I take horrific offense at anyone being allowed into this country with horrible vitrol in their hearts.

Second,

There is a slam book. Its signed by people who decide not to show respect to the people who have died over the years to preserve our national identity. You can hate the war, but dammnit , you love the soldier. I am absolutely repulsed by the lack of loyalty that we should be showing. You can say I dont share the military ideas or the political leanings of this person or that, but you dont hate on this country, you dont bash soliders who are working for a living and for gods sakes we are from here,,, put down the slam book and be a little grateful. I have a dad who fought in ww2 and I think we are just too damn removed from what life was like for our families. This is who we are damn it

dr congo, where the war is, was belgian.

don't believe for one minute that i don't take anyone else to task for the heinous ####### they've pulled around the world, on a case by case basis. there's plenty to complain about everyone. but dammit if us soldiers blowing up innocent afghans for sport and making necklaces out of their body parts doesn't raise some eyebrows in 2010 despite everyone else in the world having some bad history. ayesha's nosejob doesn't make me feel better about them, or any other us soldier being there, at all.

There were several congos

French Congo was the original French colony established in the present-day area of the Republic of the Congo, Gabon, and the Central African Republic. It began in 1880 as a protectorate, and its borders with Cabinda, Cameroons, and the Congo Free State were established by treaties over the next decade.

I think you are referring to Belgian Congo otherwise known as Zaire, also a mess we didnt make yet somehow are expected to clean up

You need to read FANON and read about FANON'S take on colonization and the disaster that France wreaked around the world. They literally practiced genocide from 1830 to 1962 and their departure led to Egyptian extremists entering Algeria and starting the fires that erupted into the muslim on muslim slaughter in the 1990s. Before these foreign teachers entered Algeria, there was little infighting between Algeria and no problems with muslim on muslim violence. I just needed to clarify your statement about Congo. It acutally refers to several states....Cameroon included

As to Morocco, their minorities were prostituted and raped by the French and Napalm was used for the very first time in history in Morocco by the French, something again America had nothing to do with.

I completely agree about the fact that there have been atrocities but in every military opertation there will be. The difference in Afganistan is that most believe that we were drug into both wars under false pretenses and personal vendettas as well as money chasing by people like Cheney. That of course does not devalue what we are trying to do there at this point and we have to absolutely prosecute all war crimes to the full extent of the law

I am friend with an Iraqi journalist who was given asylum here a few years ago and she is still haunted by things she witnessed under Saadam. There are no easy answers....and we have to accept what we did wrong as a nation..We manipulated South American governments such as Allende and we really made mistakes even with our own people for example, the civil rights battle

Every major nation has made horrific mistakes but its very unfair to hold the USA accountable for all the ills in the world..

History will show that we were not the only perpetrator, our laws and protections make our crimes more visible because we expose our bad seeds

Uh Hanging in There - with your comment about "this is who we are dammit". Perfect example of the ignorance. You're bellowing about America while at the same time making a mockery of it's values and rights if free speech, thought and expression. Here in America you dint get to tell me who I am who I should be how I should think feel or express myself.

As for loving soldiers - we have free choice with that as well as we are in America. I can love my family members who are soldiers and still think the woman who put a man on a leash naked and took pictures holding the leash is pretty much a stupid hateful tool. Complex, nuanced feelings - try it if capable And stop dictating what we all should think and feel and say out of one side of your mouth while praising American values out the other side of your mouth.

Again the hypocrisy and irony is amusing!

I think Hanging in There misread Hot Guy's post again. He did not say he hated the US army. In fact, he was making the OPPOSITE point. His post means that although he criticized the policy of the war, he not only does not hate the US in general, he does not even hate the army as a whole for implementing that policy. :bonk:

HG, please correct me if I read you wrong there, but it seems pretty clear to me that there is a total miscommunication between "I didn't say I hated the army" and "I'm horrifically offended that you hate our army."

It's an informal logical fallacy called a straw man. You set up a weak, false argument that your opponent doesn't make, and then proceed to get all indigent and, emotional then smack it down and proceed to celebrate how much more righteous and moral you are than you opponent who (did not) make such a horrible argument.

And speaking of emotions, I'll see HiT a relative in WW2, and raise her a great grandfather in WWI and a many times great grandfather who DIED in the civil war. I think that makes my argument worth at least 3 times as much as hers

But speaking of trump cards, my late grandfather, a WW2 veteran, disagreed with the current US wars. Does that mean he hated himself?

Thats what i really trying to say here .I DON"T HATE USA OR THE US ARMY .

I remember know when me and my wife were travling to FL we seen so many soldiers at the airport and she asked me : Do you hate the US army cause they killing muslims in iraq....? I swear i was like :) i don't hate anyone .I don't hatee them .Cause i understand thats thier job .And thats what the US gov askeed theem to do .If i was working for Egyptian army and if Egypt envolved in any kinda wwar i guess i would do the same '' fight,kill.......to defend my country......'' cause that would be my job! .

And as i said even after 3 wars between Egypt and Israel i don't hate jewish people at all .even is most of Egyptian people hate them !!

Nothing's impossible . Nothing's unreachable .When I am weary you make me stronger

I unequivocably support the soldiers of our country, I support the president. I disagree with the reasoning behind the wars in Afganistan and Iraq but there is no doubt in my mind that the US probably wishes it was anywhere but there right now. Europe and most of the industrialised world benefits from us being in Iraq and Afganistan as much of Europe is now struggling with terrorism insides it borders and in essence home grown terrorism. We are now fighting the worlds battles.

Um, having that much background should make you unfailingly loyal to this country and I doubt most of the women on here would stand in front of a consulate officer at an embassy and proceed to bash the nation, its defense force as they are trying to bring their spouse into this country, who themselves has that privilidge because of people like our Dads.

I am not signing the slam book. I dont care how gaga someone gets about another culture or how many layers of fabric they wrap themselves in both mentally or physically but bashing your country is traitorous. Morocco is a civil rights nightmare but you will rarely hear Moroccans go on and on about how Morocco is awful. Whats wrong with us? Why are we so loathe with self hatred that we want to pick apart the very thing we were raised in

And honestly if you want to talk occupation and war, the people of the Polisario literally have been under siege since the 70s and their land occupied by Morocco with absolutely no rights as citizens and despite UN edicts, The Western Sahara remains one of the longest illegally occupied places in the world with no response by the Moroccan Government to the UN.

I think the only reason we take so much heat as the US is that we expose what we do and people have the right to know. People just disappear in other parts of the world with no miranda rights, no rights to a free trial etc

I think the rogue brigades actions are reprephensible. I think its reprehensible to bash your own country. To disagree with certain things is fine but to bash it and not support its people is purely traitorous and if someone does not like what we are as a nation, spend several years living under a dictatorship, a monarchy impoverished or live in a country where as a woman you are not allowed to take your children out without your husbands permission and then think about what the US affords you, civil rights, rights to a fair trial, the hague convention, rights as a woman and as a mother. Its horribly naive to not appreciate who and what we are.

I have never seen any one who lived overseas especially in mena that did not have a new found appreciation for the wonderful things the USA has. I can completely understand a foreigner beating up on this country but someone who disavows who they are to trash everything we are is simply traitorous. There is no other word other than traitorous. You can disagree certain policies but you dont trash who you are...and where you are from to please others ( which is the whole slam book concept)

Not sure why you keep blathering on about this topic. There is nothing anyone here can do or say to convince you to stop living inside your head and face reality that no one here hates the US regardless of how much cloth we wrap around ourselves. huh?
