I was reading through the July filers thread and I finally read the trick to checking the progress of other cases. I plugged in receipt numbers lower and higher in sequence when compared to mine on the USCIS website. The majority of cases before mine where approved up until I got to a certain point. (Lets pretend my number is EAC1190010300. Most of the cases came up approved until i got up to number EAC1190010200, only 100 away from mine). However, when I plugged in the number directly after mine in sequence (ie, if i were EAC1190010300, i plugged in number EAC1190010301) and they got an RFE in the begining of december. I plugged in another number that comes after mine in the numerical sequence and they have an approval already.

Obviously this all depends on whether or not a case was expedited, or maybe it's based on pure luck? Who knows. I'm not even upset that people who filed after I did are getting approved. If anything, I'm happy for them. If they have gotten an approval already then who knows, maybe I'll be next???

Just thought I'd share

By the way, the case right after mine that was RFE'd, and the other case after mine that was approved were both IR1-CR1, just like my case.

The numbers I posted here are purely random numbers I chose out of the blue in order to illustrate my point. I'm sorry if I happened to mention anyone's case number. I really wasn't trying to invade your privacy or anything. Even though this method can be utilized to see other people's status, there is no other personal information displayed there, so the petitioner is pretty much as anonymous as can be.

Just thought I'd throw that out there because I'm sure my curious tendencies will probably bother someone.

That's a neat trick. I didn't occur to me that these would be entirely sequential. I had to go back several hundred numbers in order to find one that wasn't still in initial review though. :^( I will have to keep checking that.

Hey everyone,

I got my NOA1 on Dec 10 (Dec 3rd priority date) for CSC, for my wife (UK Citizen). A few questions:

1.) Is there a rhyme or reason why our petition went to the CSC as opposed to the service center geographically closest to where I live (Pennsylvania)? I sent it to the Chicago Lockbox.

2.) As of this date USCIS Case Status system is still giving me the 'this receipt number is not valid' error, which I've seen a few others post about. Is this something I should be worried about?

Thanks, much luck and many prayers to everyone on your petitions!

1.) I think the petitions are 'sorted' depending on which PO Box you sent your petition to. (IIRC, there are two addresses to send to, both in Chicago.)

2.) No, you shouldn't worry about it. It's a way to drive yourself insane seeing if you've been 'touched' yet. (of course, if you can't plug in your number, it's a way to drive yourself insane going 'why doesn't this /work/ yet?!' ) :P

Holding my nose and jumping off the cliff.. hope I don't hit any rocks in the water.

Hi !

I did the same thing with my case and used numbers before and after mine.. And It appeared other petitions for different cases (adjustment of status, permission to work etc)... And those filed after mine were approved.

Basically, I guess they sort out the cases depending on the application form.

we filed our case in October and got NOA 1 on Oct, 18th. No touch, no nothing !!!

Today is day n. 80 after NOA 1.

Really wish to hear anything soon !!!!

Good luck to everyone !
