My soon-to-be-fiance was previously married and is currently going through a divorce (kinda crazy that he wants to get married again no? lol).

He was originally married in the Dominican Republic and then had it registered in Ontario.

Does anyone know if the only step he needs to do is get a divorce certificate from Ontario .. or does the Dominican play into this at all and would he need paperwork from them as well?

I'm pretty sure you can get a divorce anywhere, no matter where you got married. I don't think the place of marriage factors in at all.

FWIW, I got married in Ontario and divorced in Nunavut no problem. There is a federal registry in Ottawa so that you cannot initiate 2 divorces for the same marriage (within Canada).

My fiance recently went through this with a former spouse in Germany. What he had to do was fill in the divorce forms and mail the petition to her registered mail. He then went back to the court with the receipt after 60 days with no response from her. His divorce was then granted.
