Greetings Forum

I am a new member, just beginning to look into the process of getting my fiancée a K1 visa to bring her to the US and marry her. She is English. Currently she is finishing her degree in the UK. We met in December of 2009 while travelling in a third country. She will not be finished her degree until May 2011, we will then go travelling once again and wont be back in the US to begin the process until the beginning of 2012, when it will be beyond two years since we met. How strict is this rule? Does any one have any advice? I appreciate all your input and will continue to read through this forum to see what other helpful hints every one has had from their experience.

Thank you very much

Zac

reread the requirement... it is not as you have interpreted.. as long as the last time you were in each others presence was within the previous two years prior to filing the petition you meet the requirement

YMMV

I think you have misunderstood the requirement.

You have to have met atleast once during the last 2 years to file the petition, it doesn't matter when the first time you met was.

The requirement (you're right, it is strict) is meeting once within two years of the date the petition was filed. Since you will be traveling together in 2011 and filing in 2012, you will be well within that requirement.

Zac thing to say he has a relationship two years there is no such information was wrong, actually I do not know because they pass it, the truth is that you have to have their relationship and prove it, no matter how long I've known couples who met and four months were admitted to the process of K1 and were approved .. if you are together since December 2009 do not worry in the process, have faith and if you guys love each other and are together to this day no one will change that.

ok

Good luck

You need to prove that you have met within the last two years before filing your petition. There is no requirement of length of relationship or time you have known one another before filing. Only prove you have met in the last two years. May I suggest that you condider getting married rather than considering the fiancee visa? Since you are not in hurry to be together and since your fiancee needs to finish her studies, you could go ahead and get married and the process has, historically, taken longer than the fiance(e) visa, but once she enters the US she will enter as a permanent resident and will have the right to work right away.

Best wishes!

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.

Hi. Just curious about the "expediate request through congressman". How does one go about that? That seemed to really speed things up for you two.

I think you have misunderstood the requirement.

"met in last 2 years" requirement means that the two people intending to apply for a fiance(e) visa have to have been TOGETHER IN PERSON at least ONE TIME in the last 2 years from the date they are petitioning for a visa
