As you may know I am in the process of my K1 visa application

But, we have a fairly simple question which we're struggling to find an answer too.

My fiancee is my sponsor and she doesn't earn enough for the full $18.5k, she's probably about $5000 short.

So we need to make up the short fall in cash, we're read some places that its 5x and others 3x

The question is, does the visa sponsor have to have this money? As I have plenty to cover it, although it's in Sterling, also would the currency be a problem?

Thanks

Because she is short on the amount needed she will have to get a co-sponsor. The co-sponsor must fill out the same information and have an income that is above the poverty line for the amount of people he/she is supporting. They must also provide proof of employment, pay stubs at the very least 4 (from what I was told) and taxes from the past 3 years.

A user on here, Boiler, has some experience with self sponsorship through London. The embassy doesn't seem to be worried that it be a LOT of money, but a modest savings account (especially one which covers 3x-5x the shortfall) will most likely be accepted based on the few reports I've seen from other users on here.

If it's in cash, or readily liquidated, then you're fine.

Since you say it's over what you need to cover 3x the income shortfall, then you should also be able to use that for adjustment of status as well.

If they have the assets to offset the shortfall (300% of shortfall)... a cosponsor is not required...
