Me: Gary what should I eat today?

Gary: Anything with HFCS

Me: Honey, throw out anything with HFCS

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

That's the idea. Our economic growth should be export driven, not consumption driven.

In fact, it will probably never be consumption driven again (without government subsidies

and other illusory gains). The US consumer is tapped out and not coming back any time soon.

If every economy is export driven, who is going to be left to consume the exports?

On a global scale trade is a zero-sum system. To export someone needs to import. Either every country has no trade deficit, or there are countries consuming the extra exports to keep the system at zero.

So if the US is to move to an export based economy, a country or several countries need to take on import trade deficits to make it work.

Absolutely. For a long time, the US was that country that other countries used to offload

their goods. It's time for someone else to take our place as the world's number one

consumer of other countries' #######.

OK with me. We sell, they buy. I got it! Make it here, sell it there.

Here is the way I see it. If I said I am giving you a $2k rebate, for a majority of folks, they'd make use of this as it's a lot of money. Now for the wealthy, this does nothing for them. They will just throw it on the pile of the other checks they have lying around.

Most people on here are earning under $300k, probably under $60K. So the thought that I am going to worry about the $300K plus bracket paying taxes is a joke. I'll worry about that person as much as they worry about the American family struggling to pay their $60 Electric bill than that person.

I just don't get what voodoo ###### they have pulled over half the country, to make you guys believe the poor American basically deserve what these slackers get. Whereas, the millionaires and up, apparently work hard and is some sort of battler.

yeah i'm sure the rich just have a pile of checks lying around.

while i'm sure you're right about those on the site are under 300k, so what? if you feel so strongly about people paying more, feel free to lead the way with your own checkbook.

Being that you are a defense contractor, which I forgot, your opinion on anything budget wise is null and void. Otherwise it would be like asking Bin Laden his opinion on human rights; Blackwater on foreign affairs; BP on the environment; Enron on honestly.

au contraire, you are clearly happy to see people collect millions for doing nothing, while you earn whatever you do. Personally, I am not into being ###### in the posterior, while others who do noooooothing get rich. Well.. apart from private defense contractors, who are basically pillaging the country.

Speaking of Australia and their high taxes, high salaries, high Q.O.L, 1000 times better infrastructure and low unemployment, their dollar now buys 0.9978 USD.

They could basically purchase the beloved F250 or equivalent new every year in cash. Those taxes, I tell ya, really hurt that country.

I actually worked it out the other day, Australians roughly pay double the tax Americans pay [per person] yet are still killing it.

*gasp* a tax that everyone pays. Oh no. We can't have that.

Hey stupid. If you eliminate the income tax and add a sales tax instead, then badda bing, badda boom! everyone pays! like it should be!

Gotta love the consistency around here.

I've asked Gary before what gets refunded under Fair Tax and he never answered.

I would support Fair Tax if the following was refundable:

All food taxes (minus dining out)

Most clothing tax (2000 pre tax dollars per family of 3)

All household goods (ie bleech)

Fuel (first 1000 pre tax dollars)

Tyres

Car repair

House repair

If the above could be refunded and then you tax things like cars, TVs, electronics, property etc. then yes that sounds pretty fair to me.

the only exception should be unprocessed food as is already the case in most states anyway. Processed foods should be taxed.

Everything else you mention should be as well. A car is a want, not a need. a house is a want, not a need. tires, etc...

I'll bite on the house repair, but unless infrastructure is invested on quite frankly in the US a car is a necessity. If your saying that only unprocessed foods are the exception then it is a regressive tax.

There are no exceptions. Everything is taxed, but everyone will get a "prebate" for the amount

of federal tax on basic necessities.
