Take a PLace like NJ, mobile homes are banned IIRC so what you have is many more people living in sh_ty appartments.

The state of NJ does not ban mobile homes. Mobile homes, like all other structures, are subject to local zoning laws. And since you are originally from the NY area you know very well how snobby we are up here about good towns and bad towns. The good towns will put all kinds of zoning regs on the books to keep their town looking nice, at least nicer than the neighboring hoodrat magnet ghetto town.

That said, I have seen quite a few mobile homes in south jersey. But then south jersey is kinda trashy (with a few notable exceptions) so that's not surprising.

You see quite a few migrate to Texas and even Virginia.

And NC too. My bad, I had forgotten VA and NC were southern. I go to both states a lot, I tend to compartmentalize them with the NE corridor.

Anyone on an Exec level I know who has traveled to Texas, all have the same response to it and it's not positive.

I also do not believe you will find anyone from first world countries who is keen on migrating to Texas. Now compare this to working in London, Vancouver, Sydney, Melbourne, NYC, LA, DC, Tokyo, Paris, Beijing etc etc etc.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

This is true for me too. We have a data center in the Dallas area and not one of the higher-ups on this team who routinely travel down there have anything but derision for that part of the country. A few of the lower level peons like me, though, have actually relo'd down there because to some people QOL = having a kitchen island.

I have a friend who recently relocated to Austin and he loves it there. He actually contemplated quitting and even went so far as to get 2 job offers and tendered his resignation when it was first announced that the company was moving from l.a. to austin. After about 3 months though, he admitted to me that he loved it there. But then again, austin isn't really texas.

Yeah, I've been to Austin and can see myself living there. It's nice. I've never been to Dallas or Houston and the reviews I hear from people who live there are mixed. Generally, sentiment seems to be more positive from the Houston area dwellers than Dallas area. But that's just in the people I know.

I'm not saying it's a bad place as I like it myself, however, it's definitely not a destination of choice. You will not exactly find any Europeans or Asians saying lets holiday in Texas.

Houston seems to be a hit or miss place. I've know people who moved there and they either loved it or hated it, no in between. I think Austin and San Antonio are the only Texas cities I could live in.

Austin = College city and home of bums. Great music scene though.

San Antonio = tourist attraction/little Mexico

Dallas = Home of the $30,000 millionaire (people who own a BMW yet live in an effiency just to look cool). Music scene is starting to become pretty decent though.

Fort Worth = most progressive city in Texas despite the Austin rumors.

Dallas/Fort Worth Metro area - best roads/infrastructure in the country. Easy to get around, cheap cost of living, everything you could always want in arts, museums, theatre, entertainment, history, etc...

San Antonio is a great city. I like Austin more though. They have a great music scene, great food, and not nearly as many rick perry styled douchebags there. I like houston, but couldn't live there. Dallas/Ft. Worth is hell on earth for me, only city I despise more in Texas is El Paso.
