Good morning VJ family,

I just called the NVC and got a lady on line. It appears that she is already having a bad day. So I gave her my receipt number and she said, this petition was recently received by the NVC now instead of giving me the NVC number, she said I needed to wait 6-8 weeks for the NVC to contact the petitioner or agent or attorney for further instructions.

Now my question is is this the norm? If they just received it does it mean they are yet to assign a case number to it?

Help me folks cause I am lost for words.

10-07-10 Approved

10-12-10 Received hardcopy of NOA2

NVC

10-12-10: NVC has application but case number yet to be assigned.

10-18-10: Case number assigned.

10-19-10: Provided both email addresses

10-28-10: Received IIN, dithering around instead of paying the fee

10-30-10: DS3032 Kit and I-864 AOS review fee ($88) online payment; In Process

In my case, after NO1, it took really about 5 weeks before I got the case number. THis was sent to the petitioner together with the instruction on the next steps. The next document I received was the invoice for the immigrant visa to me (I did not choose any agent) and the invoice for affidavit of support to my petitioner-spouse. Patience.....it takes time. At present, my payment has not been reflected and its been 4 weeks now.

Your I-130 was approved on 2010-10-07 -

Strongly suggest you wait a full 2 weeks from that date,

then call into NVC again.

Be a little more patience & you will get your NVC case# soon.

Congratulations on getting your NOA2! In line with what others have already said hang in for a full two weeks, call back, give them yours and your spouses email addresses. With the email addresses they can send you the next instructions via email rather than snail mail. That's what I did yesterday and was told it could take about 4 weeks before my case is moved to the stage where the next package of information is sent out. Hang in there - we are in the same boat and it ain't gonna sink! :thumbs:

As of now, wait 13 days before calling NVC for your case number. You don't have to get a person to get your case number. Just use the automated voice response system. First select none Haiti related case. Then listen to the promp until you can enter your USCIS case number. If you have an NVC case number, the AVRS will give it to you. If they don't have it, they'll just repeat they don't know about the case. Call a few times a day when 13 days have passed since your NOA2. Calling before then is a waste of time. And trying to get a human before knowing there's a NVC case number is also a waste of time.

To OP, since you know they have a your case, you should be able to get your case number using the AVRS. If you haven't already. I didn't bother to read the whole thread before replying. So yeah. Good luck.
