please this question is for egyptian

is katk el kitab (religious cermony) is concidered a legal marriage or not?

after katb el kitab can we apply for k-1 visa?

I am not sure about that. however, what was written on the US immigration law regarding marriage is that, If a ceremony , just like the katk el kitab is recognized in the country where you have that ceremony as a legal ceremony for marriage, then it will be a legal marriage. you might need to ask someone from the office or department of that country regarding the legality of the ceremony. and another thing, if in case that katk el kitab is a legal marriage, you cannot apply for K1 visa since you are already married. which disqualifies your for k1 visa as this is a fiancee visa. and you no longer need it and rather apply for either k3 visa, or cr1/ir1 visa.

i hope you got an idea of my post. happy to help here..

Yes, it would be legal marriage since both parties sign a marriage contract during the ceremony and that marriage contract is a valid and a legal document in Egypt. If you do katb ketab without signing a marriage contract, that might be different. But it still might create hassle for you if you decide to go with the K1 route, since katb ketab is just another word in Arabic for religious marriage.

Umm yes it is, since the Sheikh will have to go and register it at the "Shahr el 3akari" and will use your fiancé's passport and so on, for it to be legal, so yes, you'll be considered married, and then you can't apply for K-1.

If you must get married in Egypt, forget the K-1 and go with the CR-1, if you want to do the K-1, just ask your parents to accompany you and apply for a tourist visa which has a 50/50 chance of approval.

Some people get married and apply for a K-1, but if the embassy finds out, you'll be denied and banned, happened to a girl I know in Cairo, so don't do this!
