Hello Everyone.

I hope someone can help me with my question.

My wife (who is Vietnamese) and I have scheduled a trip to visit Vietnam in February. We are getting conflicting answers on what documents she needs to travel and then allow her to re-enter the US.

Here is what she has:

*Vietnam passport (expired)we are sending it to the Vietnam Embassy in the US to have it renewed

*permanent resident card (expired) (we are awaiting the arrival of her permanent resident card without conditions)

*I-797C that states that her expired card has been extended until 5/2011

*I-797C stating that she has been approved for the removal of conditional basis of permanent resident status

What do we need to be able to travel to Vietnam and re-enter the US without and problems for my wife?

She needs a valid passport to travel.

If the new GC isn't received she can re-enter with the expired GC and the extension letter. She could also take the new passport to a local USCIS office and get the I-551 stamp if the new card hasn't arrived.
