You can get married faster if you like, up to you. But it won't do anything to speed up the SSN process... it will only mean you can file AOS quicker and thus ACTUALLY get permission to work.

Thanks for the advice.

We actually thought about getting married quickly, but we already invited friends & family for our set wedding date next month.

Now we are not sure if we should cancel & do a city hall style wedding just to get started working. I figure by the time we do all of this it still would not save time to get working?

I had the same problem, I waited 2 months and nothing happened. I made an infopass to local USCIS office and it turned out that the immigration officer at the airport screwed me up by not completing the data in their computer when I arrived so the computer didn't recognize me as a legal fiance status. After the USCIS officer fixed it for me, I get my SSN in 7 days. So my advise is to make an INFOPASS, there must be a glitch on the system otherwise it wouldn't take this long. Good Luck

Hi

This is exactly what happened to me I applied for a SS card 3 weeks after landing on a K1 visa...apparently I wasnt in the system so I got the same receipt after they photocopied my docs and said to wait 4 weeks...I did and called every week to check but nada so they said they made attempts to email immigration again to verify me but got no answer after 6 weeks I made an infopass app at my local office and the guy said I was in the system but they didnt deal with that issue there so I had to take it up with SS...I returned to SS office and they told me I need to go to immigration to ask why ah it's so frustrating!!

Anyway my I-94 ran out so they returned my docs and told me to reapply when I get my EAD hoping the same thing wont happen again...can totally sympathise with your fiance...

We filed for an interview with the info pass, which is next week. And also we plan to go the JFK airport immigration on Monday to see what is wrong. Hopefully something will work. They should have a better system.
