If praying in your seat is 'just as good',

Well it's actually not 'just as good' but it's acceptable if you have no other choice.

Again, I didn't see any mention in the article that this man was in the aisle, just that he was reciting his prayers, which I'm assuming was done in his seat.

I could have missed it though due to my lack of reading skills

If it is an 'acceptable alternative' then it is 'just as good'. I'm not playing semantics with you.

I don't believe a narrow aisle on a flight where you have people barely able to move around is an appropriate place for anyone to block an aisle. Nevermind the safety implications, it's rude for any ONE person to place their particular needs above those of others. To me, that's "no other choice." Should a person feel that they really have to pray in the strictly proscribed manner, then in my humble opinion, they should be scheduling their activities around that prayer schedule...including flights.

I do agree, however, that it certainly wasn't justified to remove the man for in-seat prayers.

Electricity is really just organized lightning.

Two courses of action may be acceptable with one being preferred over the other.

In local news.. nothing major except JonBenet and Karr the child marrying type

Fox News found it's next thing to cover since the Holloway disappearance. Anything to keep American's mind off the real news.

CNN has been all over this story and the Holloway case--so I don't FOX has a lock on over-covering non-news news.

Nonetheless, he should not have been hauled off the plane because his prayer offended some drunk redneck

Where in the story posted or in the original link did it say the passenger complaining was a redneck? It only said the passenger that complained appeared drunk, not that he was drunk and that he had threatened the Doctor previously in the trip. For all we know this other passenger could have been Muslim also--might have even been one of his patients. If you don't want people to make snap judgements when they have their life in the balance on a airplane that is a target of Muslim terrorist--then do not snap to judgements about the religion, race, origin, or ethinicty of someone in a news story. Especially when the news story leaves out any clue about such characteristics of the parties involved.

Agreed. And if the preferred method works for all concerned, with all factors considered, great. My only point was that if it's not like God will strike a person down for praying in their seat versus praying in the aisle, then there -are- options that can be considered. And if those options are not acceptable measures of prayer, then I would expect the person(s) involved to manage their life around those chosen dictates, not expect me to manage mine around it.

All that being said, I really don't care how other people do things, as long as it doesn't make my life unsafe or inconvenience my greatly. So if I were on the flight and the guy wanted to pray in the aisle, I doubt I'd care...as long as I could still get to the washroom. ;)

its just stupid...

i pray on every single flight i go on... and i slip in an extra one if there's turbulence :innocent:

that guy should get a public and written apology, compensation from the airline, and the drunk idiot on board should have to also pay compensation for being an ignorant a$$wipe.

Oh my! If we started fining for being an a$$wipe there would be a lot of poor people real quick

What race is a redneck? To me, a redneck is someone who gets drunk and acts a donkey.... this dude fits that description IMO.

A redneck is typically white. The term comes from the sunburned necks of men who worked on farms, so also typically rural.

I recall a thread here on VJ some time ago where certain southern posters (I forget who they were now) were saying even Hispanics in the south can be 'redneck'.

People really need to get their stereotypes straight. :P

"Hick" would be a better term for certain non-white southerners....

I'm probably going to get a lot of ####### for this, but I'm just being honest here. I was just on a plane last night, on the way from Charlotte to Baltimore. And there was a guy with a thing on his head. Some family was sitting there at the gate and this kid looks at his dad and says "he looks like a..." (this is where the dad puts his hand over the kid's mouth). Well, in light of the recent almost terrorist attacks on planes, I'm not going to lie-I was thinking the same thing as that kid. That whole flight I was scared half to death, and I can tell you right now if I happened to have been seated next to him and he started going on in another language, I would have probably wet my pants. I mean, it's just common sense to me that in light of what's recently happened, one shouldn't be doing things on an airplane to call attention to oneself-probably not the best idea in the world. Of course I tend to err on the side of caution. If it was me, I would be doing whatever I could NOT to make other people uncomfortable, even if that meant I had to change my personal behaviors for just that little while. Sorry, but people are scared-I don't know anyone who wants to die, and the killers look just like normal people.

Don't let the sunshine spoil your rain...just stand up and COMPLAIN!
