Help: I-400 change address

Hi, everyone, i can submit my I-400 application at first week of Nov, BUT we plan to move to another state or another city around Dec! Should i submit the I-400 at Nov or wait after i move? I dont know what to do. I heard that someone said i have to live at the new address 90 days before i can submit the I-400? Is it true? Thanks a million

Hi,

If you are moving to a new address and that address is serviced by a different district office, then it is true, you need to have lived at the new address for 3 months before you can apply. I am in the same situation and I recently moved (check my timeline). I chose to wait until after the move then the three months then apply. I think in either case, your application will be delayed since when you apply for the address change (AR-11) they will need to transfer your application to the correct service center and it could take a while. That is one of my reasons why I decided to byte the bullet and wait additional 3 months. Another reason I decided to wait is because I am worried that they will not process the address change correctly, and keep sending mail to the wrong address which could cause me to miss my appointments and get a denial.

After thinking about it for a while, I went with the 3 month waiting instead of the possible lengthy delay that could be caused by their system....

This is really your own personal choice.

Thank you, V33k! Well,that is too bad:( I will have to think about this again , and i can not use PO box in order to receive all the mail while i am moving? thanks again

I know you need to provide a physical address and not a P.O Box.

You mentioned to a different city - use this link and try to enter the zip code of your current and future location and see if it comes up with the same field office... if so, then you do not have to wait

And you will have no luck in finding an I-400 form. I = Immigration. You're beyond that at the naturalization stage. Try N-400.

We changed addresses and got the confirmation notice from USCIS and STILL they sent an RFE to the OLD address FOUR MONTHS LATER! I vote for filing the application with your NEW address only after you move, even if it is for the same field office! Plenty of people have had trouble with mail going to whatever address was on the application, even if they did change the address later officially and got the USCIS confirmation (like us).

No, the post office will not forward USCIS mail, it goes back to them! Luckily my friends were living at my old address and they sent me the letter in another envelope.
