My dear sister thank you so much for your post. My husband and I live and Maryland and there making us do too much. We had to go to the Nigerian embassy to authenticate the license. Its just too much. But it is better to just bring your license rather than start the whole process over again.

Just curious if it's so much trouble why don't you just take the driving test again? In most states it is quite easy and you won't have to deal with trying to convince the local DMV to accept your paperwork.

I understand dealing with the DMV is a pain but US driving laws might be different than what you are used to in Nigeria. It wouldn't hurt to take a class or at least read the instructional driving book and take a test.

Just my opinion.. that's all.

International drivers licience is only good for VISITORS once you are a resident here you need to obey the laws of your state which usually means getting their livience. If you are caught "using" the international drivers licience you will get an expensive ticket and have to explain it when you remove conditions and apply for citizenship. Be very sure to check when a new resident must get a licience if you don't want to be in trouble with the law.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

That is something to think about people.

I agree it isn't really that hard to get your license in most states. Also a lot of the states have the test prep information online for the written tests. The road tests should be a problem to you if you already know how to drive.

please guys get me well.there is no way you will not take the driving test to get your license but bringing your license from your country gives you an edge to skip the in class course meant for a starter and move you to the level of doing your drug and alcohol class before going for the computer based test and the driving test.it does not make any sense to start afresh since you have been driving from your home country.thats the standard for people that has been driving from their country and we are just trying to make sure that folks get the information they need on time to move on with their settlement here in the u.s.a.visa journey is all about information been shared and its left for you to see reason why you should accept it,the driving rules are never different from others, Nigeria is using the same driving sign language if you can drive a car and know the road signs you can drive anywhere in the world.

thanks

having the normal license and the international is your best option,av seen somebody that hasthe normal license and was without the international and was at the end of the day sent to the Nigerian embassy to certify the license, all depends on the person you meet at the point so its good to just be ready.

secondly your local license proves that you drive from your country and your international allows you to drive for a period of 3months in that country so if you are stooped and you have this license you are free to drive till you get your license done.this is what i know and heard .
