It should be available at the local police station. You just need to tell them that it is needed for the US Embassy Interview. You need to take your passport to get the police certificate. Usually it says that so and so lives in this address and there is no adverse information against him and that person's passport number is so and so with the expiration date.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

IT DEPENDS IN WHICH PART OF INDIA YOU ARE

ANYWAY ALL U NEED TO DO IF EITHER GO TO THE LOCAL POLICE STATION AND ASK FOR A CLEARENCE CERTIFICATE U MAY HAVE TO PAY SOME MONEY TO THE COPS TO MAKE IT FAST AS THAT WORKS IN INDIA.

OR U CAN GO TO THE PASSPORT OFFICE AND GET UR CLEARENCE STAMPED.

I KNOW FOR SURE THAT IT TAKES JUST 1 DAY IN BOMBAY(MUMBAI) TO GET THAT DONE.

BEST OF LUCK

REGARDS

BOMBAY.

Timesnap -- my wife is travellig and unavailable for the next 48 hours -- I know she has gotten it done -- I'll let you know after I speak to her on Tuesday.

But, I think the district police station knew what all to write. Pretty much, it says that you don't (or do :-) have a criminal record on file, and that you have never been arrested etc. etc. Don't just barge in there trying to bribe -- ask the official way and then talk to some "babu" about the "fastest way to get it done". remember, it has to be the district police station, not the local police station (as it says on the ND consulate website). What town is your husband in?

That is in Haryana, right? I believe that is big enough to be considered as district -- he can very simply ask if the local station is the district station. Sorry to hear that you are having problems. Well, spoke to my wife and she said that her certificate said something to the effect that "to whomsoever it may concern, Ms. XY, daughter of Mr. AB is a resident of ___ since ___ and has no record in the ___ police station for any violations of "criminal and civil charges". This part is quotes is uncertain because she could not remember the exact verbiage and she is out of town right now with no access to the certificate.

Hope that helps and not confuse you. Someone else from India -- please step up.... :-)

hello everyone,

I am new to this forum, and for that matter, am blogging for the first time ever. actually, this is out of sheer cluelessness of knowing exactly what the U.S. citizen services mean by 'passport office certificate', if my passport was issued within the last six months. as a matter of fact, it is still in the making and soon as it is received at home, i am supposed to send a duly filled immigration form, with my new passport and some damn 'passport office certificate', which i cannot really figure is what.

So, here's my question finally: Are they referring to the verification report that the local police has sent to the passport office saying im not a criminal etc etc?

If so, will i get such a certificate in the same packet as my passport when i receive it at home?

If not, do i apply for it in the regional passport office??

:help: !!!!!!!

hope to hear from you soon! THANK you so much
