I am sure the indigenous peoples of this continent thought their bows and arrows etc would save them too. You can't protect yourself against threats you don't realize exist. Of course... the indigenous peoples of that time probably couldn't either. Like I said, you can't defend against what you don't know exists.

The most important technology which allowed conquistadors to overpower the indigenous people of the New World wasn't their muskets, cannons, horses, armor, or ships. All of those were important of course, but the one that really did the trick was the one they had no idea they were carrying. The germs. Smallpox, TB, cholera.

That's most likely the one that will do us in. I'd like to see what Charles' armory will do to help him defend against anthrax or antibiotic resistant superbugs spread by sneezing.
