New Filer, First Steps, Few silly questions

I have been trying to get answers by searching the forums and I have gleaned a LOT of wonderful information! I can't wait to get the ball rolling on this. But I have a few silly/simple questions that I can't seem to find the answers to, or the answers are different (I think due to how long ago the question was asked), so I thought it might be easier to just compile them here. Thanks in advance!

These questions pertain to the CR-1 Process I am starting. I am currently putting together the I-130 Packet.

1) I am filling out the forms in .PDF format. This means I'm typing out my answers. What do you do when then ask for something and the answer won't fit in the box?? Ex. They wanted the date and place of my previous marriage. there isn't room for all of that in a box that only allows 10 characters.

2) in the G-325a: "This form is submitted in connection with an application for:" Again, the field isn't long enough for Other: Petition for Alien Relative but I-130 isn't really what I'm applying for...but that's the form that it's going to be attached to.

3) Will they be contacting my ex for any reason during this process if my divorce paperwork is consistant and clear? He is not exactly stable and we do not have much contact (which is how I like it). I am hoping that this does not involve him other than my paperwork.

4) Copy of all the pages in our passports. My passport is only a year old and is basically full of blank pages. Do I make copies of all the pages, including blank ones??

5) Copy of the divorce decree. My divorce decree is like 6-7 pages long (the entire form that was filed). Do I need all the pages (all the details about money, visitation, etc) or just the front pages that shows our petition for our divorce was granted (stamped/filed with the courts)?

1. if you like you can put 'see attached' and add all the information that won't fit on the PDF on to a separate sheet of paper

2. You aren't applying for anything, you are petitioning for an alien relative, you are filing the G-325A with the I-130 which would be sufficient for this spot. Your spouse will apply for the visa at the Montreal consulate at the interview (yes, montreal is the only consulate that does Cr-1 visas)

3. unlikely

4. I'd submit all pages, it will prevent any delays in case they do need everything.

Hope this helps, welcome to VJ

Good luck

1. You want to download this software http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/editor/. This will let you type any where on the PDF. You can move your typed text anywhere you want. You can change the font size. It's like a digital type writer. In fact, once you install this app you look for Typewriter Tool under Comments menu item across the top. It's a wonderful tool for filling out those pesky PDF's. It's free to type and print. If you save it, it places a watermark on your PDF. You can buy it, if you want. I never bought it. I can cleverly Print to PDF on my computer.

2. You can put Form I130. I did and it worked fine. If you want to put your text, use the above software. If your are applying for I130 and you are clearly sending it with I130, why do you want to put anything else beside this?

3. They shouldn't contact your ex if you documents are clear, concise, and authentic. I never heard of anyone's ex being contacted. But I'm not the authority on this.

4. I copied everything from front page to back page. There was a huge debate about this a while ago. If we should copy all pages or just pages with info/seal. I felt comfortable copying all pages. So I did. And I didn't have any problem. It's only $.05 to copy a page. I recommand you do it all.

5. It's better to send in completed stuff than partial stuff. With partial document, immigration officer might come back and say you need to send the whole thing. This will only delay your process. So unless your documents are 600-700 pages, you should just go ahead and send in everything. Coping 6-7 pages isn't a huge burden.

Good luck.

Awesome! Thank you all for such speedy answers!!

Here's another one: How recent does the passport picture have to be of my spouse? If he had one taken a few years ago and he doesn't look hardly any different, can he just use one of those??

Since I mail the packet in myself, and he still lives out of the country... can he just fill out his g-325a and scan it for me and I print it out and send it? Or does it have to fill it out and mail it to me (meaning we wait 2 weeks for the mail to arrive)?

Photo must be taken within 6 months time. But I used my photo taken 2.5 years ago.

Signature on G-325A by him must be the ORIGINAL.

You can fill out his G325A for him. Save it into a PDF. Email it to him (who's out of country.) He can then print it and sign it and express mail it to you. Signature must be original.

Thanks guys!! I just had him fill it out himself and he can scan it to me so i can proof-read it (for any silly errors) and then he'll print and sign the offical one and mail it to me with a few other things I need anyway. I wish I could have it faster, but as we all know from experience (or in my case... reading ahead!) patience is just one of the many lessons learned here on VisaJourney!

I will keep you posted! :) Thanks for answering these small detailed questions.

Mine were all taken within a year but I asked them not to stamp them on the back so I would have room to write my info. So who would have known when they were taken? I had no problems at all.
