We can't alter the global temps in any way. Even if we could it took 150 years of burning FF to make the change. It would take another 150 years of burning no FF to change it back. Is that what you are suggesting we do? Nothing short of that would be futile and cause no change at all. If we do stop burning FF do you think the rest of the world will go along? If you do I have a bridge for sale. Face it man, there will be no Cap and Tax coming out of Washington. There will be no global reduction of CO2. For all the hype and fearmongering there has been no substantial change anywhere in the world. It nothing more than attepts to gain further control. Those attepts have failed. Cry all you want, you are not getting your way.

Bullsh!t. We have the technology and the know how to significantly reduce carbon emissions. The carbon cycle can be put back into balance and it is even theoretically possible to reverse the current warming trend. The only standing in the way are denialists such as yourself. Most of the world is on board with combating Global Warming. Technology is ready to be implemented. Energy independence is real possibility. We only need to push aside the obstructionists and denialists such as yourself and continue towards progress, for a better tomorrow for our children and our children's children.

All that is true only in your dream world. There is no doubt that the cap and tax is dead. There is no doubt that China and India will never reduce their use of FF. It isn't going to happen. Sorry.

US population = 300,000,000 (less than 5% of world population).

For every 1 Steven there are 100,000 Al Gores (people who leave a very heavy carbon footprint)...

While I cannot verify the resignation letter I did find this on the APS web site. It verifies the points made in the letter and tends to add weight to the resignation letter. What I find interesting is that they admitt that 37% of their members do not agree with the climate change statement from the APS. Is this the "overwhelming" consensus we are talking about? Is this the "settled science" that we are told about?

Members Bombard Councilors with Messages on Climate Change

By Michael Lucibella

In the weeks leading up to the November 8 Council meeting, APS Councilors were inundated with emails from the membership about proposed changes to the current climate change statement. The responses were prompted by an article in the October edition of APS News and an independent mass email sent to a large portion of the membership soliciting input. It has been the largest response to an action of the Council in recent memory.

In November of 2007, the Council adopted a national policy statement calling for action to curb greenhouse gases and prevent global climate change. At the Council meeting in May of 2009 Councilor Robert Austin proposed an alternate statement that said that current models were not reliable enough to support climate change predictions.

This sparked a debate within the Council and the general membership about the statement. APS News ran an article in October describing the controversy, and told members to contact their Councilors if they wanted to weigh in on the issue.

The article said, “Members who wish to provide their input on these issues prior to the Council meeting on November 8 can do so by contacting an appropriate member of Council.”

Council members said they soon started receiving a few emails following the publication of the article.

“There was a trickle for a while; then the floodgates opened,” Council member James Brasseur said. “It’s been overwhelming.”

On the morning of Monday November second, APS Fellow Harold (Hal) Lewis sent an email to a large number of APS members. The message contained the original statement the Council adopted in 2007, a link to the petition with the new statement, and the email addresses of 30 Council members.

“We urge you to let the Councilors know if you believe the Statement is a fair representation of the scientific position through an e-mail to any or all of them,” the message read, “Since the addressees of this note represent only a sample of the membership, we would also urge you to pass this on.”

Members of the Council were soon inundated with emails. Councilors Brasseur and Gay Stewart estimated that they each received around two hundred emails from members. Austin, whose name appeared on the original inciting email, figured he may have received as many as twice that.

Brasseur organized and categorized the first 180 messages he received to gauge the overall sentiments of the membership that responded. He found that 63 percent of respondents supported the existing statement with little or no change, while 37 percent said they opposed the current statement and wanted either no statement or the alternate statement adopted. Stewart and Austin said that while they had not crunched the numbers as precisely, they felt they had received a similar proportion of pro and anti statements.

Cap and Trade was only one option and it was never the ultimate or perfect solution. The EPA already has within its power, the authority to regulate CO2 emissions via the Supreme Court and is already working on tightening industry standards. The industry is crying foul - that this will cost American jobs, while the alternative energy industry is seeing their opportunity open. I am confident that we will continue to progress towards lowering CO2 emissions, regardless of the denialists such as yourself who have such a cynical approach to the future. Countries such as Denmark, are on pace to become energy independent and zero emissions by 2050. While people like you scoff at such lofty ideals, there are people helping to make a better tomorrow.

It will never happen. The EPA isn't going to regulate CO2 because it will destroy any hope of an economic recovery. The Climate Change fraud is over. Only the crying of the True Believers of the Church Of Global Warming remains.

There were about 700 million less people in the world in the year 2000.

700 million people can leave quite a carbon footprint. That's like 35 million Al Gore's!!!!

10 years from now we'll have another 3/4ths of a billion extra people. We are fvcked. How ever will we survive?

Tighter regulations on industry and fuel efficiency standards for one. Conservation. Emerging technologies - not just in alternative energy but in weather proofing homes and businesses. There's enough there to build a new economy from and it's already taking off, it's just that some are fighting tooth and nail to stop the inevitable shift from fossil fuels to cleaner energy.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Yeah, keep telling yourself that.

We will find alternatives to FF. It is inevitable. But it will not be forced by government, it will come out of capitalism. Someone will find a way to make money out of alge fuel or discover a 90% efficent solar cell and THEN we will get away from FF. Your way will bankrupt us. Thank God Cap and Tax is dead.

You can't get past this Libertarian, pie-in-the-sky notion that if government just stayed out of it, private enterprise would lead us to Utopia. The FDA, EPA, Clean Air Act, regulations on CFC's and Acid Rain, all came about because our representatives in government (the people we vote for), had the courage to do the right thing. Government has and will continue to play a significant role in shaping our economy through policy, and such policies don't have to be at complete odds with private enterprise. While the fossil fuel industry might stomp up and down like a spoiled child over tighter emission regulations, other energy companies will move in on their turf, and our economy, as well as our environment will be better off for it.
