About-Separation: Apply or Not

Hello All,

I'm a new member. I'm glad i found this forum. I wish i'll get some answers to my question.

I've been married to my husband (USC) for 5 years. I moved to USA 3 years ago (i got my GC that time). I'm eligible to apply for Citizenship since last April 2010 but for the reasons* below, it wasn't the right time to start the citizenship application process and I was lazy to gather the documents.

*My husband and I are still married, still living together, but we have some problems in our marital life that may cause to a separation/divorce soon.

Possibilities:

Should I gather the package and send it as soon as possible since we are still married and living together? (even if he's hiding some key documents).

or is it still possible to apply LATER for citizenship (i.e after separation)?,

or it's not possible and I should wait till I'm a 5 years GC Holder?

other?

Please tell me what are my options.

It's hard to think in such a difficult time.

i don't have much experience abt your situation, but if i were in your shoes, i'll just wait and file for citizenship as a five year GC holder. as you stated he may be hiding some important documents that you may need and also what if you file now and you get divorced? it may cause some problems...so if i were you i would wait till the five year mark. then it won't matter if you're together or not...Hope things work out in your marriage

Unfortunately if it's headed for a divorce, you won't qualify under the 3 year rule, so its best to wait it out the 5 years. Especially also if you feel he is hiding some documents

Sorry about your problems with your husband.

I agree with the others. Why all the tension and worry? Wait for another two years and things will be settled down and you won't have to prove anything about your marriage or feel like you are dishonest in any way.
