Good day everyone!

Hoping someone can help with my problem. I just moved out of my fathers house and i need to change the address of my green card. My father cant remember whether he addressed our green card to his previous residence or to his current one. Is it ok to change my address not knowing the where my green card was previously addressed?

Thank you very much in advance!

I don't think the address is printed on the green card. If you changed addresses, you just have to submit an AR-11 Change of Address form, which you can download from the USCIS site, fill up and mail: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/ar-11.pdf

I don't know if you still have the letter that the green card came with, the address is usually printed on the mailer.

Just like all government documents--i.e. Driver's license, FAA pilot certificate, SSA, Affidavit of support, voter registration, GC, etc--you are suppose to inform them of an address change within usually 30 days. For the GC you can use the AR-11 form on-line. For the Sponsor's address change for the I-864 the sponsor must submit form I-865.

Remember that until the GC holder becomes a US citizen, the USCIS wants to know the current address and until the petitioner has met the 40 quarters requirement the sponsor must report address changes via the I-865 form. I would try to determine what address was last used for your GC as the previous address is required on the AR-11 (it is not on the other forms).

Isn't all this paper work fun :( ?

Good luck,

Dave

if you have 'green card in hand' - hey - there's a bunch of silliness removed -

follow the poster's advice, above -

but

if you don't have 'green card in hand'

and

yer waiting for it to arrive...

be warned - usps does not forward uscis postal mail, usually -

and you'll have to call into uscis, get a Tier 2 Human, an ISO, to

verify whether or not the 'returned mail' is at USCIS or not.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Ok...how about related letters leading to your green card? Like the NOA1, NOA2, Card Production? Those letters would have your dad's address too....or if you applied for AP or EAD the same time, they'd have the same letters.

I looked at the AR-11, it asks for your previous address.

thank you very much everyone for your response.

I don't have the letter the green card came in. I wonder if i can just use the current address of my dad. would that be ok to use for AR-11!? and yes Sir Dave, paper work is fun..

Actually my father already applied AR-11 before. we already actually moved twice. And that is why now he cant remember to what address he changed it to. I already checked the AR-11 and it does really asks for the previous address that is why im trying to find out if there is another way finding out what address he registered our green card to.

I already called USCIS and they said that they dont have access to those records.

Do you think it would be Ok to just guess a previous address? :help:

When an AR-11 is sent, USCIS acknowledges receipt of the AR-11 by mail...your dad doesn't have those, either?

Guessing sounds like a bad idea...they have to match it with the records they have.

Report the change of address and attach a note of explanation in regard to your confusion about what the "previous" address was, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Actually for GC holders you only have TEN (10) days to change your address... not 30.
