I am in NY so I just had to go to the DMV with my CDN license, social security card plus another ID showing my address and that was it. Better to check with MA DMV since their requirements might not be the same. I think NY does not allow that much time to change your license.

I had to do the same thing as wolf. No driving record was required in Maine.

I-751 file: 11/07/11

NOA1 date: 11/10/11

Biometrics: 11/30/11

Approval: 08/17/12

Hold what you got and maintain.

Beantown79-From my experience...

I traded in my Ontario G2 license for a full New York State D class license....

No problem here in NYS...10 minutes in and out of the DMV.....

I gave them my G2 Ontario license (which they kept and destroyed..as nobody is allowed to have 2 driver's licenses at the same time..)

A then I got a full New York State 4-yr license in the mail 1-2 weeks later......

No further testing required (except for a simple eye test) here in NYS.......

Lol...I agree, the Ontario system 'graduated licensing' system is kind of stupid....(and expensive and time consuming too)...lol...I should have just learned to drive in the USA instead....it's much easier....

It doesn't make sense to have 2 road tests in Ontario, where in other states/provinces there is only 1 road test...

As for your circumstance...It depends on the state you are moving too..

Some allow "direct no-testing transfer", some don't...

As well, if you have any problems, you can bring in further paperwork regarding your driving experience in Canada, to help see what the equivalency is (eg. former driving test results, driver's handbook, etc...)

If in doubt, just ask your local DMV for further assistance.....

Hope this helps. Good luck in getting your US driver's license.

In Sc it was easy..I had to wait for my Social and prove residency but that was it..no driving test...and they did not ask for my Canadian license...so I still have it...almost 3 years later..I don't use it(even when visiting home) but I am glad I kept it..

PA is the same way, just show up with your stuff and they change it all over for you.

Note that everyone we asked about how long I could drive on CDN license gave us a different answer.

ALSO ---- I could only drive under hubby on his car as guest for 6 months [for free].

I am in TN and didn't have to do a driving or written exam, but they did ask for a drivers abstract from Canada. I had to have my SSN and proof of residency as well (lease agreement, bills with name and address etc). They didn't take my canadian DL either. Best to check with the DMV where you are moving to.

I've never heard of a state that requires a copy of your driving record, so I think it's safe to assume you won't be needing that.

In Colorado, I just traded in my Ontario G-2 license for a full state license. No written or road tests. I just presented my SSN and GC, no prof of residency needed.

I needed to have one in Tennessee!!! I thought I was being smart and had one done when I was home in Canada for my interview, but by the time I got around to getting my SSN and my DL....it was older than 30 days, so I had to get another one :(

Wow really!? That seems silly to me. I wonder why Tennessee does that...

The rules are pretty lax here. I didn't even have a full G and they still transferred my license over, no questions asked. They even asked me if I had a motorcycle endorsement so they could add it to my CO license. I didn't so I said no, but I think if I said yes they would have just gave it to me.
