K1 Interview

My Indian fiance, who is living in London, and I in the US, are using an immigration attorney to file our K1. Even though his actual interview is months away (we just sent in our forms to the attorney yesterday), he is totally freaking out about what he needs to bring to the interview with him. He wants to bring along with him MY original Passport, all the original paperwork that we just copied for the application and many other things. Because all this paperwork has been submitted, is there a reason WHY he would needd to have all of the originals plus my Passport for his interview when the interviewee will have all these papers and copies in front of him/her at the time of the interview anyway. I am of the opinion that things will go just fine and no worries. Fiance on the other hand stresses out needlessly about every little detail and is a bit upset with me that I don't want to give him my original passport when he was the one person who taught me never to give your passport to anyone and protect it with your life. I do understand that for him, the interview process is an important, vital aspect of K1 approval but I think his tensions are getting the best of him and he is overthinking everything. Any advice much appreciated!!

showing the 'uscitizen passport' on interview day isn't required, nor is it really useful.

In China, this can be a different matter, usually it 'shows' the Visa Officer that the USCitizen is IN Guangzhou, on interview day, to support the foreign applicant.

The 'one thing' , IMO, that showing the passport CAN be good for -

is to prove up (via visa stamps) that the USCitizen travelled to the foreign person's residence.

You can use a regular photocopy for that

and

usually, it's submitted with the I-129F, as part of that 'evidence of meeting' pack.

But even that, is optional, to 'show by passport stamps'.

So, I can't think of any 'good reason' to show the passport, the actual passport of the USCitizen (not any copy) on Interview Day.

If he needs to 'stress out' - wei ! Have him practice filling out the VISA FORMS (DS series) - I suggest once a week, a complete set of all, until he has about 11 inches of stacked paper. (sorry if that sounds harsh, but it can be good exercise, and maybe he won't bother you whilst he's filling out the DS forms?)

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

He DOES NOT NEED your passport at the interview. End of story. If he has your passport and you aren't there, I would think the Embassy would be very suspicious of that. The interview isn't about you. By the time he is being interviewed, USCIS has already verified that you are a US citizen. The interview is about him, and your passport has nothing to do with him. There is absolutely no reason that your passport should not be at the interview unless you are there with it.

Umm.. he definitely doesn't need your passport, don't give it to anyone! That's how many people can steal your identity.

Unless it's required by the consulate in India, which I'm pretty sure it isn't cause I have Indian friends here on VJ and no one ever said they needed it.

As far as original documents, copies should do, I was never asked for anything original but my birth certificate and my passport, and I'm not the petitioner!

Tell him to relax.

Have him practice the DS forms (here on VJ), I did it months before my interview and it helped A LOT when I received packet 3.
