Everyone needs to realize that if the CSC was only processing 100 or so packages a month it would make one wonder why it takes so long. BUT they are handling thousands of petitions every month. I abandoned my wife's K-1, and we married instead in the Philippines. So, this is technically my second trip through the Visa Journey. It was even slower back in 07-08. The CSC processing times have sped up quite a bit....

I don't think the issue (and the multiple topics that have ensued from it) are due to simple impatience. At least it isn't for me. Instead, this is more a result of the apparent stoppage in K1 approvals. In addition the fact that there's no place we can go to with these kind of inquiries leaves us in the dark. The unknown has, and always will cause chaos.

VJ only gives a portion of the pool to look at but it's enough to see that approvals have plummeted. In June and July 80 some-odd (per month) were approved; In August only 36; In September: 8. If they have pulled groups off of K1's to work on other backlogged applications then they shouldn't have allowed it to go on for this long. This method will cause an infinite loop to occur. They will take people off processing visa Type A to get caught up on Type B, when they finally return to Type A they will find that it is now backlogged. Upon this they will pull people from Type C and when their caught up on Type A they will find that Type C is now backlogged. This will repeat indefinitely.

I (as do most others here) know that we have a long wait ahead of us, but what I find maddening is the flawed methodology and not knowing their reasoning behind it.

I have posted this a couple times this past week, but is fits this thread, too:

I check the progress several times each day to try to determine what CSC is doing.

Based in VJ reports, it seems CSC is focused on I-130s (IR-1/CR-1) applications, with up to five or six receiving an NOA2 each day.

You can see this in the following link:

CSC - I-130 status

Meanwhile, the 1-129Fs are having little or no movement. You can watch CSC's processing of I-129Fs here:

CSC - I-129F status

I cannot wait until 1-129Fs pick up again...

This info seems a lot more detailed than the table of "Approximate Processing Dates" that you find when you click on "Immigration Timelines." I don't really understand how that table is put together. The dates for CSC change by several weeks at a time sometimes on that chart, even though little seems to be happening on the more detailed reports based on the links above.

Good luck to all! May your love endure, and your visa come quickly!

I would very much like CSC to be processing I-129Fs, just like almost all of us. But, unfortunately, we have no control over what is happening or how CSC distributes staff/workload. I wish I did. I know which file would have top priority! (Along with everyone else in this thread and related ones.) But, alas, ...

It was based on which state the USC was living in. That's how it was in May when we filed, but now there's this new fangled lock box. I have heard it's based on which service center is able to take on the petition, based on numbers. It could still be based on the USC's state though. Sorry that wasn't a very decisive answer! Someone more in the know could probably be of better assistance.

And, to be honest... both service centers have their slow/faster periods, so whichever one yours gets sent to will have it's ups and downs. CSC has been slow for the past couple months, and Vermont was slow before that, if memory serves. When we filed, I remember being happy we weren't at Vermont, because they were being slow.... but then, of course, people were getting transferred to Texas if they filed at Vermont and somehow producing light speed approvals, eg: in 3 weeks. So my "happiness" quickly went out the window, haha.

Just remember... they say 5 months for processing, and keep that in mind. I feel a bit impatient now, but we're still 3 weeks away from 5 months, so I am trying to remember that... if you get in the mindset that you will wait 5 months, then anything shorter than that will be a blessing!

Anywho, if you want to check out the progress reports forum, we're all complaining about the slowness, haha... good luck with your process!

I am not sure if they are sending to whichever service centre can handle the petitions... I sent mine a few weeks back and it went to CSC. If they are as busy as people say, it probably would have gone elsewhere. I also read somewhere recently that it is based upon location of the petitioner...

Great! So now I wonder if the better road would have been to get married and file a I-130 since they seem to be processing them faster now  Too late for that! I have chosen my poison and need to stick to it.

For the most part, it is my understanding that neither is necessarily faster. If you look at the timelines for CSC's processing of I-130s overall, they have a larger gap of time between the NOA1s and the NOA2s compared to the I-129Fs. That might be the reason that CSC seems to be trying to catch those up a bit. I still think the I-129F was an acceptable choice.

The other non-strategic issue for me is that I do not really want to spend the first six months or so of my marriage living apart. I definitely want to live with my fiancee right after our marriage.

there is no guarantee that by the time we are married and ready to file our i-130 they wont be back to process k-1s first :bonk:

Based on VJ reports, CSC appears to have approved an I-129F (NOA2) on 10-14-10!!! And the original NOA1 was from June, which means it is not just an old application finally getting approved:

Igor's List (CSC - I-129Fs)

I also hope it is just a regular, non-expedited application.

Keep 'em coming, CSC!

Posted

According to Igor's list, there are 371 VJ K-1 petitions that are awaiting NOA-2 ahead of me.

Good luck to all of you and ............. HURRY UP, I want my turn. :D

Just kidding. I can wait my turn as long as I know that it is coming and hopefully within the 5 month period.
