look at the awesome job the government did in enforcing regulations that caused the gulf oil spill to happen. This pendalum swings both ways.

Ah Yes, this had nothing to do with the lack of resources or authority now did it. Liberteapartians chain of thought is, "we hate cops and law and order, but the cops should have been there to prevent murder. Therefore, they are to blame period".

Liberteapartians like to speak out both sides of their mouths on such issues. On one hand you claim government intervention and them taking responsibility is authoritarian; so you cut their resources and authority to be able to actually do their job, as if we still live in the 16th century. Then on the other hand, every single time and no matter what the incident, you scapegoat them for these private sector failures.

That's as disingenuous as it gets. However, what really puzzles me is why Americans have not woken up to this. You do really have to start questioning the intelligence of people when things that are common sense and obvious abroad or to foreigners, are still a mystery to many here.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

sometimes i question whether you actually read what happened...

i think you missed the part where there are very strict rules/regulations/laws in place for off-shore drilling, very enforcable ones at that. The porblem was the government officials were easily bought off...

Enforcement is useless when people get paid off who are supposed to be enforcing..... Why do you think they changed the name of the government agency. They were an embarassment.

Sorry Paul but I believe in an empowered government able to look out for the best interests of the country and its citizens. Organizations, conglomerates, shareholders, private equity and so forth have zero mention under the Constitution; which you guys live by. The first three words, in double to triple the size of the rest of the text says it all. Henceforth, that is who the government is establish and supposed to look out for.

The aforementioned have skirted this - gotten around it - by creating a atmosphere where the government is perceived to be the enemy. Obviously the gullible, ignorant and stupid, have fallen for this hook, line and sinker. America has never had a strong government, one able to look out for the people. So when I hear you blame them, I have to laugh. Just now you guys are starting to create a consumer protection agency, whereas, AUS has had one since 1995. It's both independent and extremely powerful to enforce ethical and competitive behavior within the private sector.

There is a reason you will seldom [if ever] see the ####### that goes on here induced by the private sector in other first world countries. Now what do they all have in common, a strong government that both represents and looks out for the people. We can discuss this back and forth until the cows come home, but that is the reality. It's why an Enron in Aus wiping out people's retirement is simple not possible. The directors and executives are now personally liable, even for a LLC. With up to 20 years worth of Asset transfers, to hide money, able to be reversed.

What a non answer. I expected no less.

it was an answer you didn't want.

what do you expect? people to hold guns to the heads of those who might be able to rescue them and say "rescue them or else we'll arrest you and throw you in prison!"

Didn't want? I don't care enough to want anything from you - I am simply not surprised that you failed to provide an actual answer and you are continuing your non answer with red herring garnish, keep it up dude.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Politically appointed lower court federal judges are a dime-a-dozen and are frequently overruled on appeal. Judge shopping is a regular ritual for people with an agenda looking for a favorable ruling to get their foot in the door. One lower court's ruling is far from definitive. This is just the beginning.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

However, it does put the issue in motion, as this opinion is contrary to a decision in Virginia. Sooner, or later, SCOTUS will have to address the issue. So, the more the merrier.
