Hey All,

So, we are nearing our AOS interview in Los Angeles and I'm starting to get a little nervous. It will be on Tuesday of next week. I was wondering something that about the interview, namely does being Canadian make a difference? The lawyer I spoke to when we wanted to get married said that they don't ask Canadian too many questions. Do you think that this is true? I'm not sure. Would love to hear your experiences and thoughts on this.

Also, what is a good amount of pictures to take with you? Were planning to take about 40- dating, wedding, Thanksgiving, Christmas, out with friends and on vacation. Is that enough? We have no pictures with family as both our parents live far away.

Thanks,

Sara

I really wouldn't expect any special treatment because you're Canadian. Our interview in Denver certainly wasn't difficult, but I didn't get the impression that I was being treated any different than everyone else who walks through the door. At the same time, I didn't ever feel like I had to go out of my way to prove anything, I just answered the questions. Someone from a high fraud country would probably report a more stressful experience. I also adjusted from a K-1, which is generally more straight forward than adjusting from something like a tourist or work visa. What are you adjusting from?

As far as pictures, I brought some wedding pictures, only about 5, but the IO wasn't the least bit interested in them. He wanted to see evidence of commingled finances. I really can't imagine they would have the time or patience to look through 40 pictures to be honest with you. I would try and narrow it down a little more.

Hey, thanks for the info. I'm adjusting from a tourist visa which i guess is why i'm a bit nervous. Not expecting special treatment, just wanted to see what Canadian experience has been.

As for pictures, I've heard so many conflicting things. I read one post where someone took 65 pics and the IO said it was not enough. We've been together for a year and 8 months so I guess I was thinking that they expect more pics.

Surprisingly, there aren't too many of us in the Canadian forum that have adjusted or are adjusting as tourists. Hopefully someone with that kind of experience will chime in and let you know how their interview experience was. But just from my perspective, it didn't seem like being Canadian made a big difference at my AOS interview.

As for the relationship evidence, I guess it's different when you are adjusting from a tourist visa. When adjusting from a K-1, you have already had to "prove" the validity of your relationship. When you get to the AOS stage, they are primarily concerned with evidence you have established after getting married. And of course, each and every IO is different in what they expect you to present. Like I said, my IO didn't care to see any pictures at all. To him they didn't prove anything.

Had the interview yesterday and I def think that you are right. I felt like being Canadian didn't give me an advantage. I was treated like any other AOS candidate. We had quite a few questions for a 15 min interview. And, if anything, the fact that I didn't have a visa in my passport slowed down the process a little.

Anyways, thanks for your thoughts.

Good luck to all the Canadians on this forum in their AOS journey.

P.S.

She barely looked at our pictures at all. I worried for nothing. She didn't even look at one properly.

Pictures are secondary evidence. They're not really interested in those.

True, it is secondary evidence, but I've heard that some IOs are very interested and others are not. It all depends on the officer you get.

Considering how easy it is to photoshop just about anything - wonder why they'd bother :(
