To fulfill the ten-day waiting period requirement, is it possible to send the paperwork to your fiancée in the U.S., have her sign it and return it to you, and then you can file it in order to start the clock on the ten-day waiting period? That way, your fiancée could arrive in the Philippines after the ten-day waiting period has been completed.

My Pinoy kaibigan told me that one of his relatives did it that way.

I don't really have any details. I am just throwing out the idea. Maybe you can ask the civil registrar in your town (or whichever official handles wedding licenses) whether or not this strategy is allowed.

I remember somebody mentioning this and it had to do with you going to Philippines consulate in United States and signing the papers in their presence. I looked in to this and it would not work as the civil register in my wife's town would not start marriage application process without the affidavit of ability to marriage from U.S. Embassy in Philippines.

It is worth asking. See if civil register will start application process on condition you present the affidavit when you arrive.

Good idea, Atencio.

Maybe your barangay captain would talk to the registrar on your behalf and explain your situation.

Ask your registrar if they will accept an Affidavit of Freedom to Marry. It is basically a similar letter, only contracted/signed and notarized here in the US. As well as the LCCM, the registrar will need a copy of your hubby's passport. You can fill out the marriage license papers, mail them, and he can sign/return them to you. If he has a Philippine Embassy anywhere close, they can provide the LCCM papers there. Once your registrar has the required documents, they can start the license, and have it ready by the time your asawa is in the PI. If your hubby is divorced, he will also need his divorce decree. DO NOT use a "fixer" they will scam you out of your hard earned pesos. I learned the hard way....Hope this all helps. Don't panic. Ask the questions to your registrar, and see what your hubby can do from his end. Ultimately, I hope all works out for you.
