Attending School on a K-1

Hey all, I know I've been asking lots of questions lately, and I am probably getting ahead of myself, but this is the last one for awhile, I promise!

I searched for a similar topic already, but couldn't find one..

Am I able to attend school in the US after getting my K-1 Visa but before our AOS is approved. I know I need to get an EAD in order to work legally, but what about school? Is there something else I need to apply for with that?

Probably YES. There is no federal law against it and I do not know of any state schools that would not allow you to, private schools do their own thing but you ARE legally in the country, so why not?

Alla started school at a private university 5 days after arriving and had secured a 50% grant from the private college before arrival. You are not ahead of yourself. I started the school search before we filed the petition.

Mosat states will not give you resident tuition until you have been there 1 year, but some may make exceptions.

Google "ECE" for how to get any foreign education credentials evaluated. You can do that now also.

Yes, you will be able to attend school. But it might be worth researching the credentialing requirements of the particular college or university you are planning to attend. Some colleges only need the foreign high school diploma translated (if not in English). Other colleges take your word for it when you tell them you completed high school. If you have already taken some college courses, sometimes it is up to the college's school where you plan to study whether to "count" your college credits towards their programs. In such cases, having the courses' Syllabus would help the School Dean or advisor see if your course matches the goals of a couse they require at their school for a degree. Again, the best course of action would be to actually contact administrators and advisors in the school of the college or university you plan to attend.

On the financial side, you would not qualify for many grants or scholarships which are only for US citizens, but may still qualify for such help that is given to students, regardless of citizenship status.

Thanks a lot both of you! I have done some research into a couple schools I'm interested in. I even have some scholarship money that can be applied to those schools . Now, I just need to work on how I can prove residency. If not, theres no way I am paying non-resident fees. They are absolutely killer. I've heard of other people doing it in less than a year, so I might as well try!
