interview and time to get a green card

Hello everyone,

please I really need some suggestions from all of you related to my American Green Card.

I'm Italian and got married with an American woman on March 2010 in Las Vegas. She was my girlfriend in 2002 when I worked in California (I worked there several months with a touristic Visa because I worked for an American-Italian company). For eight years we didn't see each other, but last year we started a new relationship which arrived to our wedding. We provided very clear evidences of our entire relationship to USCIS.

We sent all the paperworks to USCIS at the end of May. So far we've heard nothing from USCIS and haven't got any invitation to an interview with the American Embassy in my country.

Is all of that normal? When do you think I should get the interview and my Green Card? Or better, after I'll be accepted for the VISA how long do you think it takes to get it?

Hope to have given enough informations.

I thanks all of you for your usual help

Marco

What paperwork did you send? Did you send a check for the correct amount necessary for either the AOS or the Spousal visa? Are you currently in the US or in Italy?

Here is a link to the guides detailing the exact procedures and paperwork necessary for different circumstances: http://www.visajourney.com/content/guides

Totally normal. USCIS processing is at about 5 months. SO you should get petition approval soon. Then comes NVC which will take another 1-3 months to get through. Then the interview will be in your country. After that, if approved, you will get a spousal visa, the green card will be mailed to you once you enter the US

All this is assuming you are in Italy...are you?

GOod luck - I know the wait if terrible

Many thanks to everyone guys!

I'm understanding that I'll be able to work in the US not earlier than March 2010 right?

To Jewel-8: I'm living in Italy now and I sent documents like a lot of emails between me and my wife (also of the 2001-2002 when I was in CA), a letter of my parents where they declare they are conscious I got married, an old letter my wife sent me in 2002 from the States to Italy, the marriage certificate, g-325a docuement, all the tickets of the last year of my and her trips to USA and Italy and we paid 5-600 USD for this procedure (I don't remember exactly the exact amount and to whom we paid that. My wife did it).

How about if I go to the States before getting the spousal visa, do you think I can find a job? (I'm an engineer, I work in software development/testing).

Many thanks for all your answers :)

Marco

You may visit the US now, but you can only do that, visit. You cannot work or live there.

March 2010 has already passed, I assume you mean March 2011. You can work in the US as soon as you are authorized, this means having a CR-1 visa, and SSN number, and your I-551 stamp

I know this journey is tough, but don't try and cut corners. There is an end to this process

Good luck

Sorry, I meant March 2011. Yes, it's a tough journey! :( When do you think I'll be authorized to work in the States?

Thanks a lot

Looking at your dates it took about 9 months before getting all finished, didn't it?

Woah. Be careful. Let's not start any personal attacks. Maybe their situation is different and they don't have to wait a year between visits like some of us had to. We don't know what is going on, and bringing in money is important in a marriage. My husband and I had a very tough start to our marriage during the 6 months it took for him to get a permanent position.

To OP: The answer to how long it takes you to begin work is entirely dependent on how long it takes you to get all of the paperwork in order and land the right position. There are too many variables to give you an exact time frame.

Ya, usually, it takes 2 weeks to get a SSN assigned once yer IN the USA on that CR-1 visa (if you go to SSA office and apply)

so figure 3 weeks, tops (if you push/drive this with SSA office)

from date of arrival until the date you can legally work.

as for the rest of it - it all depends on USCIS/NVC/andTheEmbassy - a reasonable expectation is 10 to 11 months from 'first filing date' of the I-130, but that's not 'set in stone' - these durations could move one way or the other.

Hey Timol, how you dare writing those things in this forum!! Why are you so insulting with me?

Just to let you understand the situation with a simple syllogism:

I come from a very nice country like Italy where engineers like me, fortunately, can find easily a good job. I'm in love with an American woman but, as you know, without VISA I can't work legally in the US (and I WANT to be legal in the US). The reason why I asked all of you informations about the permission to work there is the risult of a simple equation: no VISA = no legal job, therefore it's impossible to come to the US, therefore - MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR OF THIS EQUATION - I can't stay next to my love (my wife). Isn't it a simple equation?

So, please, if you take part to this forum without answering anything useful to people who needs help and you just offend them, please stay out from here (at least from my questions, but I think that a lot of people agree with me)!!

Marco

P.S. I apologise to everyone if I reacted in this way, but I didn't appreciate that statement

I apologise and take my words back. No offends, wrote first what came to mind from your posts.
