I just got back from visiting my fiancé in the US and now we are thinking about starting the K1 process. The first thing that really scares us is this: I was granted a 10 year tourist visa for the US this august, BUT we dont know if i will be able to use this same tourist visa and visit him again, once we initiate the K1 visa?!

Can anyone help us with this, please?

Thank you

No problem, I was just giving you a hard time :P

You'll get more accustomed to the way things work around here in no time. As for visiting, definitely read that thread, it's very helpful. Also just know that initiating the K-1 petition process doesn't negate your 10-year tourist visa. Once the K-1 is issued and is physically inside your passport, however, it will make the tourist visa essentially void.

Welcome to VJ and good luck on your journey! :star:

Thank you so much for the thread!!!

Till now i was reading everything that people wrote there and i saw that they all have more or less similar experiences. Some are more alike then others, but the bottom line is the same, you have to try and hope that everything goes well. I just really dont want to be denied at the entry, that would be a killer ...

tnx for the support :)

You came to the right place, the people here are full of good info....I guess i was right, you can still visit your Fiance with your tourist visa until you receive the K1 visa...I'm sure the Consular Officer (CO) of the Imigration Office (IO)will cancel your tourisst visa once you start using your k1 visa...good luck.....by the way my wife's case took another step forward today...yessssssssssssss.....:dance::dance::dance:

Ou all this is tnx to you, i just followed your advice. You were right, people here are open and they all want to help in any way they can so i am very thankful to everyone :) Once my fiancé and i start gathering the documents that we need for the K1 process we will have many more questions, but we will cross that bridge when we get there ;) Step by step! The first question we had and which honestly really scared us seems to be answered in our favor. Its a nice start.

I am so happy to hear that your case is going forward. Say hi to your wife from the homeland ;) Wish you all the luck guys!

Thank you

I am very grateful that you pointed me into the right direction. People here are simply wonderful and very helpful, and what is most important, they show understanding for someone like me, who doesnt really have a clue about any of this.

I am so happy to hear that your case is moving forward  Say hi to ur lovely wife from the homeland.

Depends on the CBP officers at the POE. If you have good ties/evidence that you will return when you are supposed to, you may be able to get in. Or they will turn you away. With the K-1 you are stating that you intend, once it runs it's course, to immigrate to the US. They don't want you to do that any earlier using this other visa. Understand?

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

Yes, i do understand that, and i really have no intension of doing it any other way than the legal one. I visited my fiance in august (till october) and i came back since i have responsibilities here with my studies. I dont know when its a good timing for me to try and visit him again because surely we will have wedding plans to do by then :) We plan to start the K1 as soon as possible, we were only scared that i may not visit him after we initiate the process. Will be my studies considered as an evidence of ties to my country? I am in masters studies, i have few exams left and than the master thesis. I am afraid that it may not be enough... and the tickets are really expensive, not to mention the mental trauma.

thank you for the advice
