Halal is not exactly renowned for its humane treatment of animals now is it. Then again, bleeding things to death (halal) seems to be the norm for your ilk. Those of us that are civilized, at the very least put the animal out of its misery, by stunning it and putting it to death in the least painful way possible.

nearly every livestock animal slaughtered for food in the united states is killed by exsanguination, genius. the only difference in the actual killing part of halal and kosher slaughter is their prohibition on stunning, of which the humane society says is ineffective and inhumane anyways. animals are suffering more because of the stunning process, not less.

I didn't ask nor mention how it's killed here or any other civilized country, I wanted to know how animals are killed under halal. Evidently they are treated just as well [lack of] as humans by that group.

No they are not shocked first. And I guess Israel is not a civilized culture then either? If you had read sandinista's point earlier regarding whether stunning is humane, you might be prompted to look into it yourself. I'd hardly called typical storage and slaughter methods in the U.S. the gold standard for the ethical treatment of animals.

There has to come a point where civilized people realize these practices are primitive, which raises another question on its own. Heck, progress is the same reason we do not sacrifice animals any more; well those of us civilized do not.

Time for Islam to be brought out of the 6th century and into the 21st century. After all, actions speak louder than the rhetoric.

A lot of halal processed foodstuff are imported from Canada because there are non available in America. I'm not a guessing man but I'd guess it totals into billion dollars. Al-Safa is one such halal brand. It's owned by a Jewish person I think. But it makes tonnes of halal food like breaded chicken wings, nuggets, cutlettes, wieners, beef sausage, beef pepperoni pizza, etc. You can find Al-Safa brand on nearly every single halal store.

They have to cater to Muslims if they're truly out to maximize profit for their shareholders. Ninty percent of American Muslims are aged below 50 compared to only 45% of general population. Meaning, Muslims make better consumer ####### than the general public. Nearly 80% of the Muslims have a Bachelor's degree or higher. But only 44% of general American population have such degrees. They're are farmers in Virginia who decided to raise and slaughter their livestock in halal manner. Because they make better profit this way. And the general people can benefit by eating halal/kosher. Because these methods ensure the animals are treated fairly and your food is treated with properly.

I think you're applying this principle to the wrong practice though. If you read about it, there's really nothing about halal slaughter that is primitive.

Female genital mutilation (NOT a part of Islam, to be clear) is a primitive practice that should be abolished.

Parading bloody sheets around after the consummation of a marriage (also not a part of Islam, if I understand correctly, but rather a cultural tradition in some more remote areas) would be another example.

In fact, I think you'll find that many of the practices that you find primitive that you associate with Islam, are actually not part of Islam at all. So maybe Islam doesn't need to be modernized, but certainly many cultural practices should be.

I believe that bigamy *is* really allowed though (although with many qualifications that are commonly not adhered to), and that has definitely got to go.
