Help! I am confused. My wife was issued a Permanent Resident Card, but it has a 2 year expiration.

What happens after 2 years? What do or will we have to do?

Thanks

Yup, that's normal, when filing an AOS from a K-1 visa.

What's next? Removal of Conditions - see http://www.visajourney.com/content/751guide

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

You will need to remove conditions within the last 90 days of her GC's validity. The application you will need to fill and submit is I-751. Please read the instructions for this form and get familiar with it so you can plan things accordingly. What I mean is make sure all things are joint, and take pictures wherever you go.

It is good that you are asking this now so you can prepare...

And you thought you were done, didn't you?

Nope, due to so much immigration fraud in earlier years, the Green Card process got one more obstacle built in to sort out people who only marry for a Green Card and then split. Hence, the first Green Card for newlyweds is a probationary one. In two years' time, you'll have to show that you guys indeed lived together as a happily married couple. They look for documentation in regard to cohabitation, and mingled finances, first and foremost taxes filed jointly but also a shared bank account and other things that a married couple would normally share.

What that means for you is that from now on when you go on a vacation or celebrate a holiday or birthday, you take a photo where you both smile into the camera and store it safely in your USCIS folder. You're not done just yet.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I concur with all the answers above. If your marriage is legit and you are still together two years from now, hopefully you will sail through without problems and without an interview. Remeber to file within the specified time though. Good Luck.
