They are Federal civil service workers, and Monday is a Federal holiday.

According to a recent article that was posted here, they are contract workers and do not actually work for the government ;) They are subject to the rules of the contract holder, and not the government employee rules... Having said that I think they have the day off anyway! :P

Monday is a national holiday. Government offices and banks are closed so I would assume the service centers are closed also. I am not working and I am a government (county) employee

I think you are all missing the point, the people who work in these centers are not employed by the government but by an employment agency ;)

Not by any stretch of the immigation are USCIS adjudicators contract employees. They are required by law to be government employees, and if you read their site, they are running ads looking for new employees. Their working level is GS-12 which is typical for government non-supervisory high level analysts.

Ive read that they people that anser the phones are contract workers which may be possible. But anyone who signs govt documents as approved or denied are govt employees. You cannot obligate the govt unless you work for the govt and have an authorization to obligate the govt (i.e. grant a visa, or approval an application). I was one for over 30 years.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

The three immigration-related agencies under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) include U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Here, you can read about these programs what we do, the places where we work, our career opportunities, and the many benefits available to our employees.

Working for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is responsible for administering benefits and services activities including adjudication of applications for benefits such as petitions for the immigration of relatives and workers, work authorizations, adjustments of status, requests for asylum, and naturalization. In other words, USCIS immigration officers are responsible for adjudicating and processing the host of applications and forms necessary to ensure the immigration of people and their families to the United States, from initial stages through their transition, to permanent residence, and finally to citizenship. I would say generally everyone will be off tomorrow. However, the government can offer Holiday pay and comp time, so there is a possibility that some government employees could be working, but there will be no 800# service or appointments scheduled for tomorrow.

Contract employees will be generally be cleaning and maintance, 800# reps, security guards, mailroom or clerical workers. Anyone that signs their name to an application approval will be a federal government employee.

Grr I dunno this makes me a bit upset and angry because whilst they get the day off and go and spend it home with there loved ones here we are, another agonising day apart.... :(

Love hurts

When you live an ocean away

When you change your sleep schedule to catch a few more moments

When you really need to be held and you have to imagine whilst your partner describes it

When you constantly refresh the USCIS website to see if you're getting any closer

Love Loves

When it repays you with the love of your life

When God finally answered your biggest prayer

When you can live life again in the real world but still have that eternal connection

When you wake up for to the beginning of the rest of your life with the person you fought so hard for

When you love somebody that much

You'll do anything
