Hi, I have a question that i'm hoping someone has the answer to....

I went for my K1 interview yesterday at the London Embassy (I was approved :D). When i was half way home i realised i had not been given back my original divorce decree... Will this be included in the envelope containing the visa or have they made a mistake not giving it back to me at my interview?

Thanks

Michelle

Your problem is going to be it will almost certainly be inside the MBE which you must not open. Original documents are normally returned, did you get the originals of other documents back?

Well worth a call to the help line to get the e-mail code for this week to e-mail the Embassy. Once you get your passport back with the visa in it and the MBE with all your case file documents in, the only way it could be retrieved would be to take the MBE back to the Embassy for them to open and reseal. You might luck out and it comes back with your passport and not in the MBE but I don't think I'd take that gamble.

What to expect at the POE - WIKI entry

Did you provide a copy of the divorce decree, or just that one document? If you did not provide an accompanying copy, then the original is all they have, and is part of your file now. Do you think you'll need it again?

There are a couple of opportunities for you to get it back:

- Do as already suggested and try to get the embassy to agree to put it outside of the MBE (IF you provided a copy to them)

- See if it's already outside of the do not open envelope

- When the POE officer opens your do not open envelope, ask them if they would make a copy and give you the original back. (Ask for them to give you a full copy of your medical too while they are at it!)

- If you get an AOS interview, ask the IO if they would mind making a copy and returning the original....

I asked the lady who checked my documents if she wanted the originals or copies as i had made copies of everything... She was quite abrupt and said it was the originals she wanted... She took my birth certificate and my 2 divorce decrees... When i was interviewed i was handed back my birth certificate and only 1 of my decrees....

As for the medical... The lady gave me a cd with i'm presuming my chest xray on it... Should i still have this or should that be still in my file??

I was so nervous i was just glad when it was all over and i was out of there! lol

We're gonna try calling the Embassy tomorrow and see what they say...

A CD? I know the PI embassy does the x-ray on a CD. Maybe London's catching up with the digital age. Is it sealed or could you look for yourself? If you didn't get a big x-ray back, then that's probably what it is.

I'd continue trying in the ways above. Especially if there is a copy in there. I can't tell from the way you worded it - did you hand over the copies as well? Or did you keep those in hand when she said originals?

Like i said i'm just presuming it's the xray... Just a big white envelope with a cd in it....It's not sealed but it looks like it was sealed when it was sent to the Embassy... I suppose obviously it would be then no one could tamper with it... I don't really trust my computer to put something as important as this cd in it! lol

The copies i still have... When she said originals thats all i handed over.... Her exact words were "I want the originals, we don't do things like that here!"...

What she meant by that i still don't know... I'm just glad the interviewer was a lot nicer than her!
