Hi i just received the approval for my VAWA petition. My lawyer is getting ready to file for my work permit now. Now i know i have to go to an interview. Would any one know what kind of questions are they asking at the Vermont Service Center?

Now I've been really wanting to go back to school! But i want to go to a vocational school for LVN can i do this after i receive my work permit or do i have to wait to see if i get my green card?

Now my last question is i have a child with my x husband and have been doing my taxes. But i know they wont give me what they are sup to give me for her since i don't have a ss#. Would i be able to go back and get the money from my daughter after my work permit or would i also have to wait till i receive my green card?

i would appreciate any ones help!!!!

Thank you very much!!!!!!!!

I didn't know they did interviews at the VSC, and I don't really know what kind of questions they ask at those interviews. I can't help with that.

Most publicly funded schools require proof of legal status in the US. The EAD isn't really proof of legal status. It isn't listed as one of the acceptable documents for the community colleges and public universities where I live, but it may be different in your state. You're in a gray area where there may be a difference between what USCIS considers to be lawful presence, and what a publicly funded school may accept as proof of that status under the laws of your state. Talk to the admissions office at the college you plan to attend and see what they'll need. You may end up needing to wait for your green card.

Collection of child support is not an immigration matter, nor is it controlled by the Social Security Administration. It's controlled by the family courts in your state, and collection is sometimes managed by the district attorney's office. If you need an SSN in your state to collect child support then you'll have to wait until you get one to collect. You should be able to make a claim to get the arrears paid after you get your SSN. If the court or district attorney's office doesn't handle this automatically, then your divorce lawyer should know how to file this claim.

Jim

Thanks for your help! My question about the money wasn't about the child support i'm sorry maybe i din't make my self clear. I was talking about my tax money. Usually when i do my taxes they give me some money back but not all since i'm doing it with my ITN#! I believe some one told me once i get a ss# or something like that. I can go back and claim the money they never gave me. Now i was wondering if i can do this once i get my job permit? Do i get a ss# when i get my job permit? Or is it a piece of paper that says i'm allowed to work in the usa?

Thanks for your help!

if it's up for approval, then the 'end result' should be a green card.

You can do much, when you have a green card

--get a SSN

--attend school

--qualify and get financial aid at schools (see http://www.fafsa.gov )

re: tax money due to you -

the best way to get this back, IMO, is to file amended returns, with a SSN -

so without any SSN, you'll have to wait a bit. IIRC, the first 'chance' you have to get a SSN will be after you have EAD card in hand, the second 'chance' is when you have green card in hand. Don't bother to file with an ITIN, you won't get back as much, as if you had a SSN.

Good Luck !
