AOS transfered to NBC

On July 23, 2010 our AOS application was transferred to the CSC for faster processing. We were happy to hear this because we have heard that some people got their green card within two months and without an interview after having their AOS transferred to CSC.

Today we received an email stating that On October 5, 2010, we transferred this I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS to our NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER location for processing because they now have jurisdiction over the case.

Should we be concerned? Anyone who may have some insight please share with us your thoughts…thanks, Mai and Robert

Among other things, the NBC does pre-screening processing for AOS petitions requiring an interview. It appears that CSC has determined an interview will be required in your case.

Unless you have unusual factors in your case, I wouldn't be overly worried about it.

Thanks for your input. We were kind of wishing that we would get a break and get to skip the interview.

In most cases people that get interviews tend to get their greencard faster then those who have their files at CSC. I have an interview too. Dont feel to bad. All the Best.

So were we, so I was a little disappointed when we got the interview letters. As it turned out, the interview was a breeze. They interviewed all of us - my wife, two step-kids, and me - at the same time. My wife's niece came along as a translator. The whole thing was less than 15 minutes. We interviewed at the field office in San Francisco, and there's actually a decent Vietnamese restaurant right across the street!

Thanks to all for your insight and words of encouragement. Hopefully all will go well with our interview as we can not think of anything that might be a red flag for our case at this stage. Robert and Mai

I find it strange that they moved it to the CSC to where you will have no interview then moved it again.

This seems to be happening to a number of people, based on posts in the AOS forum. CSC seems to be pretty backlogged right now with K1 AOS applications, so they might be kicking a percentage of them back for processing at local field offices just to ease the backlog. It's also possible that someone at CSC noticed something that justified a face-to-face interview.

Our AOS petitions were never sent to CSC, and went straight to the field office in San Francisco. This had me a little worried. I thought they must have found something in our case that required an interview, but my worries weren't justified. The interview was very easy. I presume, based on that, the reason for us getting selected for an interview was probably random chance. The only thing the IO asked for at the interview that wasn't also included in the AOS package was an employment letter for me, which I obtained and brought because it was listed in the boilerplate checklist on the interview letter. She also asked to see the original birth certificates for everyone, made a few corrections on the I-485's (like adding everyone's cell phone numbers), and kept the I-94's. We'd gotten the EAD's, but she didn't want them. I offered originals of all kinds of stuff, like the tax transcripts, etc. She didn't want those either. She said she didn't need them.

She ended the interview with "Well, do you have anything else for me?". I said "Yeah, I've got all of this other stuff, like joint bank account statements, medical insurance EOB's, utility bills, and whatnot". She said "Can I keep this?". I said sure, and she put the pile of stuff into the folder without looking at any of it and closed it.

Like I said, easy!

First I have heard of this but I am about to go to see a good friend who is just now going through the AOS and had his moved to CSC for a non interview and will see if it has happened to them. I will post later. Thanks for the info. Excellent as usual.
