Same brand name drug dude, just different pricing in the rest of the world versus the US.

We don't really do generic in AUS.

You should be thankful we are paying for the R&D. What drugs has Aus. came up with lately? :bonk:

read what i said, the LAW is what makes these drugs so expensive. The government doesn't work for the people, it works for the pharmaceutical companies. Even OBAMACARE still protects big pharma... Canadian drugs are 10 times cheaper, yet it's against the law to import them....

Pick up a science or medical journal every now and then and you might be surprised.

People living in the woods of Washington state of all places, do not come up with much.

At least come live in this neck of the woods, where the real - traditional - Americans live.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I wonder who put such legislation into place. Sounds an awful lot like Repubs taking care of their cronies.

Nevertheless, you dodge the question of why are brand name prescriptions cheaper in countries like Canada and beyond? This has nothing to do with importation or any other nonsense.

Tell me the last time someone like you created any pharmaceutical or any other discovery.

Half the scientist and engineers working on that stuff are foreign anyway.

PS Nice attempt to dodge that health care costs 1/3 in other countries and is better.

There are no controls over big pharma outside of the FDA.

They a lot of times get grants to do R&D (many do it on their own though) and when they put a drug on the market, they sell it @ a premium based on the advertising/marketing dollars, cost of production, etc.. that goes into the drug... all drugs are inherently expensive when they come out and come down in price over time (when the patent runs out), but as long as the drug companies are allowed to have long-term patents, then they are going to be expensive....

The thread is about health care costs, not who invents what.

You missed the point again; same drug, totally different pricing depending on the country. Don't try to use any anti-government angle either, as the FDA equivalents abroad are three times as strict. After all, it takes double the testing before medication is released in the market in AUS. They also have the authority to withdraw medication much easier and quicker.

No, they're proving that the main purpose of health insurance companies is ... shock! horror! ... to make a profit, make money for their shareholders and pay their executives.

How do you, the human being on the service end of health care, benefit one iota from a middle man, for profit corporation making money managing (read making sure they take in more than you receive in benefits) your health care?

As I have said consistently since this "healthcare" reform farce started, insurance companies need to be removed from any involvement in the basic provision of healthcare, as their main role is to remove money from the healthcare system. They are, by definition, an inefficiency built into the system.

It is settling for "something" to be done, rather than the right things, that has landed us in the mess we see unfolding now.
