Canadian Thanksgiving

It's Thanksgiving this weekend. :) Do any of you get to travel home and share it with your family? Or is anyone making plans to do it here in the US? Or are you still in Canada and doing something?

I did have plans to go home (because it's also my daughter's birthday) but there is a ton of stuff going on in the US that we are having to deal with so it's just not possible. :( Last night I made a roast chicken dinner and thought of Thanksgiving, but I may or may not make a real Thanksgiving dinner because I'm scared of it making me homesick. We shall see.

My husband is taking Monday off and we're going to be cooking up a dinner.

I'm going home the weekend after that so maybe I'll try to squeeze another dinner out of my mother then, I'll tell her it's belated thanksgiving... hells ya I'm turkey hustler.

Mmmmm. Turkey sammiches. nom nom nom nom nom

There's no way that I could cook a turkey, though, with only the two of us. It would have to be chicken. My MIL crucifies turkey. Every year we go there for American Thanksgiving and it's as dry as a bone. She told me she was going to let me do it one year, and then apparently wasn't happy when I said I wasn't going to put it in the oven the night before because after I went to bed she did it. <_< Yeah. I don't eat too much at their house. It consists of way too many sweet things and dry meat. And she chops up the liver and puts it in the gravy so I can't even put that over top to soften it up because I can't stand liver. I wonder if I can get away with bringing my own food. I'm pretty sure that would offend everybody. LOL

Last year we did a full turkey - this year I can't be bothered. It's just too darn warm in VA to cook a turkey dinner at this time of year. It's also not the best time for us to take time off for travelling.

Sadly I'll probably never go home for Cdn Thanksgiving...although my niece's birthday is 10/10 and I'd like too :(

I don't do Canadian Thanksgiving at all, once a year is enough for regular Thanksgiving. This year though I'm going to England for my Thanksgiving as I want something different to do for the long weekend. Used to spend it with my ex-wife and last year I spent it with my friends and I did the turkey and we had rum and board games and it was a lot of fun. I just thought it would be more fun to just go somewhere else, so no Thanksgiving for me this year, unless they celebrate it in England in November as well which I doubt...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

I wish I could go home, but due to the lack of funds Wes and I will just be having a little one here. I'm gonna make butternut squash soup, cornish game hens, garlic mashed potatos, gravy (of course) and cucumber salad.

I am going to make a thanksgiving dinner. I had invited my in-laws and I think that the SIL and family are coming, but unfortunately my MIL has to work all weekend :( Even if it were the 2 of us I think I would still do a small turkey. I can freeze the leftovers...and they come in handy for a quick meal!!

Wow. England is a long way to go for a long weekend. I hope it's a really really LONG weekend. lol. I need a few days just to adjust to the time lag, let alone turning around and coming right back. Board games are awesome. I miss having friends and family here to play board games. :(

Never say never, Udella! But I'm sorry you won't make it to your niece's b'day.

My MIL never has gravy, and its just a turkey breast and it's never really flavourful, and then theres always like weird food - lots of sweet stuff too- not a traditional thanksgiving at all. Which is happy my husband makes a giant feast on Canadian thanksgiving with all the fixins!

This is my last year in Canada for Thanksgiving, so my fiance & his son will be here for the w/e & I'm doing the turkey Canadian style (whatever that means!) Hopefully we will celebrate my visa coming in the mail as well, as it's been 10 days since my interiew & still haven't had it issued! Getting pretty scared!
