Hello VJ Family,

In addition to completing form I-864 and supplying photocopies of tax returns/W2, paystubs, and other assets. Does a joint sponsor have to complete any other forms or submit any other documents? Like, proof of US Citizenship (birth certificate or citizenship certificate) or green card. And or, complete form G-325 (Biographic Information)?

Yes - they have to prove they are USC/LPR's as appropriate.

Read Number 19 in section 4 of the 864 form/instructions for what can be used for this.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

A joint-sponsor would need to prove LPR/USC. They do not complete a G-325A. They only need to provide federal tax returns (or IRS transcripts), and W2's (if it was an IRS transcript w2s wouldn't be needed). Paystubs and other assets are only important if the sponsor does not meet the 125% on their tax return.

Your profile doesn't indicate what visa you are adjusting from... that will affect what I tell you whether the sponsor need to provide proof of LPR/USC...

I updated my profile. My husband is here on a J1 visa (without the two year requirement). Thanks for the help. :)

Ahh, as you're filing an I-130 as well, your husband would prove his USC/LPR there. If you were filing a K1 for example (like I did) you wouldn't need to prove it because we did for the visa ages ago.

** moved from "Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from Family Based Visas" to "Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas" as you are adjusting from a J1 visa and the prior forum is for K1, K2, K3 & K4 **
