Did the fiancée visa, got the adjustment of status paperwork approved, did biometrics and now I got the notice for the interview at my local office. I'm in the mid thirties, she's early 20's. I got a joint lease, joint cell phone, joint bank account and paid for english classes at a university (two grand).

The big question is she came here in December, starting working in March, but works at a strip club as a dancer. Should I tell the truth about this or say she doesn't work yet? She doesn't get paychecks or anything, not sure what to do.

First of (and I am assuming right now) that if she doesn't get paychecks than she doesn't get tax taken away in which case I would not mention it.

Well I'm sure you know she's working illegally if she doesn't have an EAD. Paychecks or not, it's illegal. Normally it is forgiven if she married a USC and she definitely should not lie. Honestly it's up to you. I cannot condone lying as it is again the VJ TOS.

As for the evidence. More is always better but what you have seems okay... photos (wedding etc), cards to the same address, ID with the same address, health insurance in both names, Wills if you have them showing beneficiary as each other, life insurance, car insurance, car rego, pet ownership papers... anything with both names you can think of :)

Curious situation... you know, where or even if the beneficiary is working may never come up in an interview (to me, it would seem a natural thing to bring up). Having said that;

Should I tell the truth about this or say she doesn't work yet?

No one here is going to suggest (or should not be) that anyone do anything other than answer questions honestly (in fact it is not allowed on VJ).

She doesn't get paychecks or anything, not sure what to do.

She gets paid (presumably) - before paychecks were invented, people got paid in cash. Are you concerned she's working illegally?

You don't mention anything about an EAD (employment authorization) - is it safe to assume she doesn't have this (most get this long before an interview is scheduled)?

Nothing illegal is going on.

She has employment authorization. She gets paid on all tips, similar to a waitress. She'll have to file taxes, they keep track of what she makes from dances, etc and will report it and send her the end of year tax statement like any other job. But no actual paychecks.

Just wondering what, if any, problems her job would cause during the interview. I don't want to be viewed as a trafficker or something crazy.

Gumbo,

Otto is correct: nobody here will advise you to keep your mouth shut about this, even if that would be the smartest thing to do. Why not? Because it is against VJ's rules to do so. Therefore, you should not expect a meaningful answer to your question.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Oooooooo well if she has a permit then no problems :)

Admit what she does but I'd probably pick a prettier term for it "exotic dancer" or something like that. It's likely they'll blush and move on :)

She has an EAD? Then she is fine. Maybe a lapdance demonstration (kidding) Do you have any photos?

I thought my answer was very meaningful. If she has an EAD, there is nothing wrong with what she is doing. Tell them about it, no problem. If she does not have an EAD then she is working illegally and you do what you want, because you did anyway. How much more meaningful can you expect?
