I had my citizenship interview in LV on Tuesday. I was booked for 7:45am and arrived at 7:15am to wait. I was called in at 7:50am. I sat down, she pulled out my large file and asked if I was still married, and if I still lived a the same address, and where there any changes to my application.

Then, she went through the questions, did I commit any crimes, did I ever say I was a citizen, did I file all my taxes.

Next was the questions which I studied and she didn't like my answer on one.

Q 1 What is the law of the land? CONSTITUTION

Q 2 What do the stripes on the flag represent? 13 ORIGINAL COLONIES

Q 3 What Ocean is on the west coast of the USA? PACIFIC

Q 4 What is the name of the national anthem? STAR SPANGLED BANNER

Q 5 What is the rule of law? EVERYONE MUST FOLLOW THE LAW- she didn't really like my answer to that, I explained that it was that everyone must follow the law, she said she was really looking for that no one is above the law.

She then made me read something, then write a sentance.

She congratulated me, said I am approved and the ceremony will likely be early November.

I left at 8:08am. So 18min I was in the office and it was done. Wow.

Ceremony is next up, then this long journey is finally complete.

My answer to the question in question is this:

Everyone has to follow the law; no one is above it, not even the President of the United States.

That basically covers all the answers on the back of the flash card in one sentence.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Ha, may be the the rule of law, but certainly not the practice, if the president of the United States goes above the law, the practice is to forget it and just move on. Smart presidents have fall guys.

Was really touching to study the civics test with my wife, but then asking the question, what in the hell has happened since then? Like that one where only congress can declare a war, was true until after 1941.

Nick,

quite a few questions on the civic cards are complete hogwash. The whole thing was created by a bunch of morons. Some of the answers are just ridiculous. Whether it's what Benjamin Franklin is known for (the good stuff is missing), or the Indian tribes (the only 2 Indian tribes from California are not even listed) and lots of other stuff. If I had a say in this, I would take out the retard questions (Atlantic Ocean/ Pacific Ocean) and get 50 meaningful questions together which would require activating the brain before answering. Then, every applicant has to answer all of the 50 questions with at least a 90 positive percentile or keep on being a foreigner with a Green Card until he or she "gets" it.

I would also require every US citizen to pass the same test before being able to register to vote.

Or the three branches of government for balance, executive, judicial, and congress. President picks the judge, slave congress approves of it, and the judge does what he is told to do with a very marginal 5-4 vote. Congress can't even make a law that doesn't have to be interpreted and all done by opinions. And a very marginal opinion at that. Even jurors have to vote unanimously on any issue and I asked my congressman this question many times as to why the supreme court shouldn't be unanimous as well. He doesn't know.

Agencies were only suppose to advise congress on technical issues, in the last 40 years, we have accumulated more than 1,400 governmental agencies that are making their own laws our congress doesn't even know about. The USCIS is just one of them. Even office managers are making their own laws. Then we have a USCIS that doesn't even protect a sponsoring US citizen if taken by an immigrant, not even freeing them from that I-864 contract you are force to sign. Was reading the Effects of Major Family Changes on Immigration Benefits on this board for awhile, made me sick, so stay out of that section.

Was very humiliated to have my life directed by a kid at the USCIS that didn't have enough brains to wipe their behinds, but had to be nice. And because we wanted to do everything legally, were put in the spotlight and millions are still entering this country illegally. Just read an article on how ineffective that 1.6 million buck fence is between Mexico and the USA.

Let me apologize for being so straight forward, but I believe the American electorate is largely a bunch of uneducated morons.

There are some very smart people in the US, a great number of people who are reasonably intelligent, and then there's the rest.

If someone does not know how to find London, England on a map, does not know whom the United States fought for independence, does not know how much tip 15% of $60 is, does not know which countries border to the US, does not known what the name of the highest court in the United States is, does not know where Greece is, does not know what decade the Vietnam war was fought, does not know which components make up Congress, does not know who the first President of the United States was or when Abraham Lincoln was in office or where the slaves came from or who gave the Lady Liberty to the Unites States . . . how can he or she be expected to make an INFORMED decision about what direction the country should be heading to?

You say the requirement to pass a civics test would eliminate 90% of the voters. I disagree. I believe a first test would eliminate about 50% which, after a phase of preparation and their desire to vote, would finally read up on the stuff they should have been reading up on all along. The second run would probably allow 75% of today's electorate to vote. The remaining 25% are those people who have no clue and unfortunately those people who can make all the difference. Those are the people who are receptive of dumb-dull propaganda. The folks who watch Jerry Springer and read the Enquirer. May the Lord bless 'em, but they are simply not qualified to vote.

Now, let's leave Atlantis and Lemuria out of this. I spoke of the Atlantic (Ocean) as response to the question: which ocean is east of the United States and the Pacific (Ocean) as correct response on which ocean is east of the US. That's just a ridiculous question, a waste of paper, and an insult to intelligence!

What I feel is criminal is the severity of the attack ads politicians are running in the governor, senate, and congressional races. On TV, in newspapers, in the mail, and messages left on my answering machine. While politicians have to disclose their sources of contributors, now independent organizations are being set up that don't have to report anything. Was struck down by our state supreme court under the guidance of freedom of speech. Leaves very little to the imagination that the two strong political parties are setting up these unheard of organizations so they can produce these even more severe attack ads without supplying exactly who is paying for them and why.
