Hi Zeban,

From what I could understand from your post, If you are worried about not having enough time to submit your documents to VFS, just have your wife take the interview letter and p.port to the local VFS office and whatever other docs she has with her. VFS are just concerned about the courier fee, so if she has nothing else, she can pay that fee and rest you can take at the time of inteview to the embassy.

nope. u can't get the passport with the visa stamp on it over the counter anymore. i called the chennai US consulate and confirmed it myself. i think all we need to do is jus take our appointment letters and passport and pay for the courier fee. we don't ve to submit anything to the VFS. cuz i think both u and me went downt he same route. ur wife and i choose our husbands as the agent. and submitted al of our orignals so we don't need to do anymore submitting at VFS. one fo my firnds had her interview recently and she dint ve to submit anything either. jsu paying the fees at the VFS. s'all.hope this ehlps. by the way y do u need copies of ur tax transcripts ??? i dint know we needed those copies. :S

VFS will deliver your stamped passport (hence the courier fee) to your given address or you can collect from the local Blue Dart office, its upto you, i'll suggest talking to the executive at VFS about your optoins. But you WILL NOT be collecting it from the embassy, those were the good old days. Good luck.

Sarah,

I know that there is no counter collection, but you can collect it at VFS. See below.

VFS will deliver your stamped passport (hence the courier fee) to your given address or you can collect from the local Blue Dart office, its upto you, i'll suggest talking to the executive at VFS about your optoins. But you WILL NOT be collecting it from the embassy, those were the good old days. Good luck.

Twulf.... i understand the courier fee. its quite obvious really. Thanks for pointing it out. but

My point goes beyond that. Read below.

I want to go to the interview, then go to the VFS office and collect it from CHENNAI where my interview is.

Q1. How will I get my passport back after the interview?

A.

Once your visa is approved; Blue Dart courier will return your passport to you at the address in India specified by you. Allow up to 7 business days for delivery after your interview. Please note that passports will be delivered only at the address specified by you, at the time of scheduling your interview. VFS or Blue Dart staffs are not authorized to change / modify your delivery address. The cost of the courier is included in the service charge. To track status of your passport:

Go to home page click on link ‘Track Your Passport ’ and follow the instructions.

Send a mobile phone SMS message to 57333 and type VISA (space) US (space) (e.g. VISA US A123456))

Note: The charges for SMS service are as given below:

Mobile Operator Cost Per SMS

Airtel, Idea, Reliance & Spice Mobile Rs. 10/-

BSNL Rs. 5/-

MTNL Rs.9/-

Vodafone Rs.12/-

Tata Telecom Rs. 13/-

Optionally, you can collect your passport across the counter via the ‘Counter Passport Collection ’

Note : Counter Passport Collection is an optional service to facilitate applicants to personally collect their passports. Using this service does not entail refund of any service charges paid by the applicant.

This is what i am asking about.

Check it out, clarification would be great.

i think the counter collection is collection of your passport with the visa sticker in it directly from the VFS office the next day after 4 pm i believe. that's what I did with my wife. she went for the interview in chennai (you CANNOT attend w/ her, btw - be prepared to stand outside for 3-4 hrs with all the other people in front of the giant tree and the bus stop - you'll know what i mean when you get there and see; make sure you click on my timeline and read the chennai interview review for all the gory details. actually the CO was pretty nice and chatty). at the interview, make sure your wife asks (prob not necessary, but ask anyway) after the CO says "you're approved!" that when will the visa be ready and if she can pick it up herself rather than have the VFS mail it out to you. The CO will say "everything should be ready after 3 pm or so tomorrow afternoon" (that's what he said to her when she asked). then rejoice that day and party it up! the next day afternoon, go to the VFS office in govindarajapuram (? forget the exact location, or is it govindapuram, i forget - anyway, you can google the exact address) and start standing in the line for the collection counter. once again, you'll see all the other folks who are also there to collect or have some form of bizness with the VFS already forming a line. there are 2 separate lines - one for men, other for women. your wife will stand in the women's. the counter opens at 4, i believe (at least it did for us and i dont think that's changed in the last 3 months). make sure you have your VFS receipt with you, as that's how they will id your packet. collect your packet and verify the contents inside - it's a large silver-ish plastic like envelope which will contain a welcome letter, a brochure, your passport and all the visa applications and all other evidence sealed inside a large brown envelope. this is the envelope you DO NOT open! you will give this to the officer at your PoE here in the US. the passport will contain a sticker which is the visa in one of the passport pages. that's your cr-1 visa.

hope this helps. good luck!
