There are a lot of people who vote like that. They will vote counter to their own economic situation for one of two reasons: First, because they still feel they can attain that level of prosperity, or second because they have latched onto some peripheral social cause. A family of 4 in North Carolina with a combined income of $38K, yet voting republican because " they are against abortion/gun control/gay marriage"

Sad but true. I also think a lot of Dems lost out because of the religion factor.

Once the atheist hippies started rolling into the party, the religious took flight like the plague was in town. In reality, the religious aspect is exactly what the Dems should have used to illustrate they care about people.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
